3d:
if you want to lay down solid perspective quickly, you just use 3d.
models in 3d can be reused for other purpose ...

get a hard round brush, that should take care of the clean edges. fast confident strokes should take care of the straight part

that is true. a quick sketching proigram might be a slightly more appropriate starting point. from there you can develop it and take it wherever you want. as for the ui, as much as i hate floating too ...
