Im just wondering why my rating is showing up as 5 stars....
Im not that good.
Ive seen better artists with a lower rating...whats up with that?
Have I just "defaulted" to a perfect score because nobody rates me? |

it's not really an 'art greatness' rating .. more like a popularity/niceness thing. I think it was originally intended to show how involved you are with the forum and how much people like you. You must be pretty popular or people like you a lot or something |

I'll second that... though perhaps it's also because you have a cool user name here? Seriously, you've probably been of help or sympatico with someone here at a time when he or she really needed to hear or read exactly what you had to say, perhaps it's that and personality too. Could be a few things. Either way, I would say it's cool that you've got the rating. I do too, with only one vote of course, and can't for my life think of who voted for me. But I appreciate it, and feel like I said something or offered some advice that someone really took to heart.
Considering what had been, apparently, going down around here for a while, that's pretty groovin' to know-that there are a number of people here who think beyond themselves in this forum. Someone thinks you're part of that number.

yeah, groovy.
I also, am a 5 with only 1 vote.
That makes me feel good. I helped at least ONE person, and that makes it worth it for ALL the time Ive ever invested, helpying EVERYbody.
It feels worthwhile and rewarding to teach sometimes I think.
I just wish I were better myself, but Im still pretty young, and Im sure I'll get better, though i might not be as talented as many others. |

Well thats easy then.. if you only got one vote and you are at 5 stars. The rating system must work on averaging of all votes!
So in theory if I voted you at a 1 star then you'd go down to 2.5 stars or something near that... (I won't do it cause it might ruin your wonderful line of 5 golden stars). But yeah thats how it works i think. |

Yeah i must admit it is one thing I don't understand. For mine, it just seems every time I give a constructive crit, someone takes it the wrong way and "votes me down". Makes you wonder why you'd bother. |

Eyh, who cares? :] The important thing is if people are improving as artists. If they get defensive about a critique, then they need to grow up! But balancing encouragement with criticism is always the recipe for getting people to take to heart what you're teaching them. |

I don't really understand the raiting thing, it seems to me that those certain individuals will always put 1 just to be themselves. It's something I think should be done away with. |

If its any comfort to you, I only see three stars.
But don't feel bad, I've got none! |

well, thats what happens when you call attention to yourself.
Was 5, now 3. And I havent even posted any artwork since this thread began, which just goes to show that its really not indicative of anything I guess. Oh well.
4 votes now. |
