Hehe. Okay, let's talk about some artists that you feel kick ass. I'm sure we all look up to a lot of the same artistic heros, so how about naming some artists that aren't quite as well known?
I'll go first: Mark Zug. This dude kicks ass! He's done Magic cards and stuff, but his Dune artwork is so friggin awesome. His paintings have this rich, textural quality to them. I love it. Here's a link.
Your turn! |

Brom kicks my ass. I love Brom's dark harlequin look; consistent, ghastly, beautiful, and amazingly well executed.
Frazetta and Craig Mullins can do with a couple of strokes or color dabs what no one else can achieve. Genius.
Feng Zhu is amazing (and I met him... wee!).
Paul Bonner is god. His big burly beasts are the best thing since the wheel, or fire perhaps.
Alan Tew makes magic happen. I AM HAPPIER THAN YOUuuUUUUuu...
Kenneth Scott of Id software fame is the BEST game artist EVAR. Closely behind him in my estimation is Jason "Dark Horizon" Sallenbach with his amazing, stunning, brilliant attention to detail and twisted-ass shit.
It's late. I might be able to think of more tommorow. |

I've done a lot of the "your favorite artists" threads in the past, so this time, I'm going to do as Sedone said and list ones not as well known.
Yamashita Ikuto-- Most people only know him(if they know about him at all)through his mechanical designs for Evangelion, but prior to that, he did a cyberpunk-ish comic book series called "Dark Whisper." Excellent artwork, with some of the best sci-fi designs I've ever seen.
Nirasawa Yasushi-- Kickass sculptor and monster designer. The most F%cked up creature designs you'll ever see. Goth, cyberpunk, horror, mutant freaks...you name it.
Gouta Nanami-- He's like a 3D version of Nirasawa. Soopa freaky creature designs.
Ronnie Del Carmen-- I love his cartoony style. This guy knows his shit. Great figure drawings with exaggerations that's just perfect.

Oh yeah, Nirasawa's a good choice, Lunatique. His sculptures are so damn twisted and awesome. |

What a nice thread!
samurai - yeah, Paul Bonner kicks major butt. Actually he lives here in Copenhagen and I have met him a few times. Very nice guy!
so there - that was one artist that I admire very much...
Others:
Phil Hale - the best!
Todd lockwood - TSR and magiccards. Great craftman and a nice guy too.
RK Post - twisted designs.
Brom - yeah... who dont like him?
Keith Parkinson - classical fantasy.
Donato Giancola - wow!
Justin Sweet - my new hero!
Mike Mignola - comix superhero superior.
And ofcause a bunch of the traditional masters that I have been studying just lately. I wish I had started earlier though...

BooMSticK: You've met Paul Bonner? Damn, how I envy that. I wish I could find somewhere to grab some of his work. I have a couple of his images in that artbook "Spectrum 7", and a few tiny little thumbnails on my computer... but I'd love to see more and study it.
If you know where I can get some, or have some yourself, would it be too much to ask you to send it to me? My ICQ UIN is in my profile.
I'd also like to mention Hyung-Tae Kim, Mark Zug, Massimilano Frezzato, and Simon Bisely as some seriously kickass artists. |

Dr. Bang: Im not saying he should draw chicks with guns. Im just saying my main intrest is character design and costume design, Mr. Mullins focuses more on mattes and landscapes and environments and such, his skill is un matched no doubt... thats all |

-donato giancola (BOOM!) kicks bahootie. I always love his hands and they're so convincing.
-richard kane ferguson has this super freaky overly complex watercolor style with ogre goblin thingies. what a wonderful description, it's cool. heh.
-adam rex's stuff is so imaginative and vivid. he's done magic cards like the other two guys I've named.
-rebecca guay (gasp! a woman!) her watercolor rocks.
-quinton hoover - ink and watercolor. *drool*
I'm starting to dig well executed movie special effects and animation too.

Heheh. When Rebecca dyed her hair red years ago, my jaw was on the floor when I saw her at Comic Con. She looked just like the Lady of Shalot! I remember my very first time standing in line(DC booth)to have my portfolio critiqued at comic Con was with her. She was totally humble, and it wasn't till later that night I found out she was dating George Pratt at the time(I really liked his Enemy Ace). |

samurai - yeah, well... we have been beggin' for Paul to make a website for some time now and I know that he is working on one... sporatiously! So dont expect to see it anytime soon... And you should see his originals. Oh man! so much more awesome than seen on print. He usually takes around a month to do one painting. But then again he is a sucker for detail! Also he has modeled a t-rex head in 1/3 of the real size. It's huuuuge! and really neat looking with the neck and head coming out of the wall like those trophys you can see hanging around in hunters' houses...
