Hi girls and guys ...
Here is a question about designing a character
About what a "paranoiac" should look like ?
What kind of face especially ... i got the shape of him,
someone very thin, he used to be fatter in the past,
but his desease "kills" him slowly ..
he is 30/35 years old ... living alone,
I cant figure out how is his face ! I tried to draw him so many times that im bored now
Wich actor could play his role, etc etc ...
ANy ideas would be really really appreciated
I plan to 3dmodel this guy ...so any details can help me
I will keep you in touch about my work |

Has little relevance but its got the same name
Seriously though, if you want to capture the full feel of the character start out by researching paranoia. Nothing too in depth, just find out exactly the effect it has on a person.
Then, come back and brainstorm on what they would look like...for me I'd be thinking along the lines of...
Paranoid, cant sleep, always worried...that causes what?
Lack of sleep, dark around the eyes, pasty skin because he wont go out, bad hair / nail condition because he wont sleep / doesnt eat properly. Not shabby but ruffled / dirty clothes because he's too tired to make an effort on anything. Glassy eyes, but still slightly aggressive / focussed. Maybe bitten nails etc
Also if you pick something he is specifically paranoid about you could emphasise the character a bit more etc...unless its general all round paranoia =)
And remember...keep that tin foil hat on while your doing art...blocks out the government satellites.......
mwuahahahhahaah *snip*

Hey, youre reading in my thought
all of this kind of characterisation are ok for me ...
In fact, everything you said is already on paper ... in a folder hidden in my room
The next step here is to draw !
Maybe someone like a thinner "al pacino" ...
I like to think of my character filled with craftiness...and a kind of pride too .. and when he feels very bad ... really afraid of anything around him
I like to think about paranoid as a shkizophrenic way of life
But I still have difficulties to shape his face up!!
do you know what I mean ? |

I would think a paranoid person would frequently shift from wide, panicked eyes to thin, furtive eyes in an instant. A weasely little character who has something that he thinks everyone else wants or a escaped felon running from the law. |

hi, i too am trying to get into character
design ( in my spare time) and have just
started this pic...
i set out to capture a very paranoid/scared
type alien.
what i would suggest is:
big wide shrunken eyes and also big
cheekbones, some kind of nervous twitch
,head dropped low in shoulders,.. you
get the idea... i think it actually helps
if you act out the character.
go for it! run about showing all the
aforementioned qualities and accuse people
of implanting microchips in your brain!!!
good luck

hwei : Yeah its definitively a good example ... his mouth and half closed eyes, wich can reflect SO much of his internal health
His little chin too ... really a good example thank you
For now Imafraid about giving motion to this kind of character ...
Shanmhead :this alien is cool I like the stroke roughness and his twisted pose
im gonna scan piece of my storyboard ... still not finished, but still interesting I hope |
