I offer you two pictures. The first was done at the beginning of summer, and the second was done just this past week (I'm still working on it).

What I need to know is, first, have I improved, and second, what have I yet to improve upon? Any comments you can give me would be helpful. Thanks.

the anatomy of both look pretty good., ill critisize the second one.
the image looks blurry, i assume you work with smudging to smooth out the brushing. i do this too, but i paste every part in apart layers, then i lock the transparency of the layers so i cant go past the sides, giving a much sharper result.
the orange lightning on the pants is too strong. fingers of the right hand point too much upside, the clothes look too thick. i dont like the fire, heres a nice tutorial: http://www.eyewoo.com/index_tutorials.html?tut_candle

if you have improved is hard to say. the second image has more action, the first one has more detail.

ill critique them both

suggestion: don't make muscle men too muscular, because they end up looking wrinkly. pick up a figure drawing book in a bookstore as a reference for the anatomy.
its good, but it needs work.

for your second piece, your background is sort of there, but not.

take a look at the way baggy pants on a guy look. Your guy has a very very fabric rolled pair of pants. I like the pose though, but fix up that head. It looks like the eyes are sinking into eachother. perhaps make his head a slight bit bigger ?

I agree with Anthony J about the muscles, don't detail them too much or he'll look like an old prune ^^;; Just dig out some photo references of, for example, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Anatomy books are a good source too

The pants on the second guy look odd.. Like curtains (dig out those pictures again for reference )

I don't see any significant style change in between the two pictures... Except that the muscles aren't as detailed in the second picture as they are in the first one ( a definite plus ^^) Don't worry about the improvement, though, it takes a lot of time... I've been drawing for about four or three years now and I still aren't too good at it >_<
