all right, these teasers were all done while I worked for 3DGN from March 1999 to October 2000. 3DGN was an online gaming magazine that went extinct back in October 2000.

Each of these were done pretty quickly. Usually I had very little notice in-advance and took an average of 45 minutes on each. All of them were done from scratch, although reference was always made to the game logos and screenshots, since the point of the teaser is to catch the viewer's eyes and make sure they can visually identify something as being from a specific game.. or something like that.

http://www.perilith.com/~totally/3dgncomp.jpg (633KB) is the full resolution version, with the teasers at the resolution they were at when they were posted on 3DGN.

Comments and stuff are always good.

so these are for a website eh?

No offense or anything but don't the professional websites use the actual promotional art for the game with graphics like these? Don't get me wrong, your site may be doing something different, just curious.

nice job on the graphics though. All I have to say is keep those photoshop effects as invisible as possible, in some of your graphics you can kind of see where you used some effects...it's a really hard thing to do but more subtle effect useage usually looks better. keep it up!

3DGN definitely was doing something different than most sites when it came to article teasers. They were always done from scratch, even before I was with 3DGN. At 3DGN we always tried to be unique, with reviews that were always humorous and entertaining and the inclusion of original graphics for each game. The page that took 3DGN's place on the 3dn.net network after our departure (a very crappy site btw.. they average one article every couple of weeks... we had 4 to 5 a week) uses promotional art.

I certainly agree about layer effects and using them subtley, and the more teasers I did, the more I was able to do that, making it less blatantly obvious that layer effects like glow and bevel were used. Earlier on I was doing a lot of experimenting while trying to get these done very quickly.

The graphics look great as far as the lettering is concerned. I think that most of the illustrated people look a little strange though. Not the coloring, just the shape and form. Otherwise, good job.
