The colors work really well together, everything is soft and comforting. I'd suggest doing something with your text, it's a hard font to read in the first place and the colors are a bit dark.
That logo is HUGE, 800 pixels wide? Consider all the poor people out there in 640x480 resolusion.

BTW, this is my first post, hopefully I'll have time to pimp some ncie art here soon!

Good job there Lunatique!!! One suggestion though, can you perhaps put sone of your artwork as some additional graphics for your big logo? Maybe that redhead girl? That attract visitors alot....

One tiny complant. Sections are broken up into too many popup windows! But other than that plain and simple is how I like it too with web sites. Looks good, great artwork, keep it up Lunatique!

Hey, great suggestions!

Chris- you are probably right about the grapics. I should down-size it a bit.

dr. bang- Dang! That's great! Looks awesome. I should totally consider something like that. Originally I had the title graphics as a winter scene with lots of snow and ENCHANTED superimposed on it, but then I thought I should just keep it simple. I really like what you did though. I think I'll try something similar. Thanks!

wootkoos- someone also told me that the pop-up windows are bad. Can you tell me what it is about pop-up windoows that bug you? I did it so that people don't have to hit BACK all the time and reload a bunch of thumbnail images. I had no idea there are people out there who don't like pop-up windows. Is it THAT annoying?

RRoam- Hahahaha. your site is funny. Those sounds made me giggle. I didn't really use anything except Netscape composer in the past, so for this new site, I learned Dreamweaver as I'm building it(took some getting used to). I didn't use flash because I always thought of it as an animation tool, but I was just told it can do everything that Dreamweaver can do and do it better? Is that true?

Heres another guy who hates pop-ups. I REALLY hate them, I have my mouse-wheel-button configured as back-command, so I dont have any problems with hitting back all the time, is a very fast thing to do. But I always have more browser windows open and if every site would have pop-ups, I would soon have 1000 windows open with most of them being redundant. So most often I close websites who open to much popups without browsing them further if they arent VERY excellent.

Regarding your Logo, personally I dont care about people working in 640x480, simply because I think if somebody works in that resolution for long enough his brain becomes jelly , also I think that nearly nobody cares about people using 1600x1200 or even higher, but nobody says "Please, design it a way that you dont get a headache at high resolution"
But I think its not really necessary to have your logo that big, because it doesnt have much detail to require that size.

I like the simplicity of your site, as it is meant to be a gallery of your artwork and not to show off your flash-skills or anything like that. Love to browse through fast loading galleries without much ZaZing.

I really like the font and the colors are well chosen, except that mint and the colors in the news or info-popups, dont like that. I think you should stick to your basic colors.
One thing I do not like is that the logo font is very different stylewise and that it is in a block with another color than the bg color. That destroys my inner harmony. I would have rather liked to see a similar font like the sketchy one with a drop shadow under it. The drop shadow thing could also help to make the text on your site more readable, as Chris said its hard to read; wasnt hard for me.

Hope I expressed myself in an understandable way and that some things will help you.

And Lunatique, if I havent got a wrong impression of your personality I think you would like to mention girls before guys in the news/updates popup

Wow. Looks like I gotta kill the pop-ups.

Yeah, I should keep all the colors in harmony. Some of those are from the old site, I was too lazy to change them...

Ok, I'll be updating my site soon, but I wanted to get some feedback on what should change/or not.

1) yes, please ditch the pop-up windows. Trying to control the way users browse == bad.

2) Including links to non-existent content (i.e. "under construction" pages) is kinda silly--I suggest taking out the links until the pages are actually up.

3) ALT text would be nice for the images. Sometimes I'm ready to click before everything has loaded, but without ALT text I don't know what image-links will go where, so I have to wait.

Other than those issues, it's nice--good work! I especially liked the fact that I didn't have to jump through hoops to see your work. I hate it when sites force you to watch like five minutes of gimmicky flash and/or load a megabyte of interface graphics before letting you see what you came for -- the art! Despite my horrendous connection (28.8) everything loaded pretty quickly.

Version 2.1 is up now

web page

I took in many suggestions and tried to implement as many as made sense.

I did, however, keep a few things.

1)I made more frames so the need for pop-ups are much less, but I did keep the pop-ups for the images because:

I watch people browse, and there are basically two different browsing styles. The first one is what I call the "experienced browser," someone who right-clicks and opens up images and links in new windows a lot. The second one is the "ineffecient browser," someone who would only left click on links and images, and then have to sit and wait for the same thumbnails to reload over and over and over when they hit the BACK button.

So, I made pop-ups for the images because I've seen far more "inefficient browsers" than "smart browsers."

2)I also kept the pop-ups for when you click on the link that takes you to the original sketch or color study for an image. That way, you can have both the finished painting and the color study side-by-side and compare them.

The rest, are all kept in the frames.

I have a feeling I can't please everyone, but I'm definitely open to any opinions and suggestions.

There's one issues I still can't decide on. A friend said I should break up the pages with lots of thumbnails into more pages(around 16 thumbnails per page). That sounds like a reasonable idea, but my thinking is this: If I already have pop-ups for the images, why not just load all the thumbnails since there's no need to hit the BACK button anymore. The only reason I can think of to implement his suggestion is if it bugs people to use the scroll bar to see all of the thumbnails.

What do you guys/girls think?

i like the pop ups, but here is the problem i could not see the bottoms of alot of images. So you should put scroll functions on all of them.

wow dude just dig your site and artwork... very nice indeed. also it was really interesting how you research for characters, vehicles and other stuff. keep'em coming!

as for the site... well... first, we have a BACK button in our browser or keyboard, we have a right mouse button (PC users ) or shift+left click shortcut. Never restricts the user - give him a choice. Most of people realy don't like these pop-up windows and heh some firewalls simply kill them. If it's really important for you - just add 'open in a new window' function icon like the guys did at www.gameart.com .

Next, i tried to see how big your thumbnail is and a new window appears... a bug? Also i can suggest to optimize your thumbs... they are too big for the folks like me at 28.8 modem connection.

And the last, some of the pics are bigger than my screen size and there are no any scrollbars!!

of course we come to see your art and not only cool navigation but the easy you do the sharper you look.

Im maybe an "idiotic browser" in your view, but I like the way I browse.
