strata - Wow, you're proposing to your girlfriend! Congrats =)
I can't say I'd really know how to go about doing it though. But things that -I- like to receive are generally thoughtful little cheap gifts (and an intuous 2.. *cough* teehee)... seriously though. I like hand-picked flowers, I like homemade cards and cookies, I like little love coupons, I like picnics and romantic dinners. Massages and bubble baths can be reeeaaally nice. Some guys do nice things like that hoping to get sex afterwards, but you should do it for her. Set up a nice hot bath with her favorite bubbles, bring her some champange and fine chocolates to nibble on... maybe let her soak in there with a good book and some soft music for a while. When she gets out give her a nice foot massage and a pedicure with some tasty-scented mint lotions (feels great on your feet)... then bring her to a nice dimly lit room with candles and give her a good massage. Have some satin pajamas waiting for her when you're done and let her just crawl into bed and sleep like a baby afterwards if that's what she wants to do. I can assure you that any normal woman would adore such treatment
Of course I'm not gonna lie and say I don't like getting "normal" presents too. I absolutely love opening packages! It's just so much fun to rip into some shiney paper and pull out a surprise. Another fun thing is to go on scavenger hunts for your presents. This is generally a good idea if you have a really nice gift to give. Write tiny little 2-4 line poems giving hints to where the next clue is. So she roams all over the place picking up hints in search of her package. This can be as small as a little treasure hunt in an apartment, or as big as a drive all around town. What can be really fun is to get local shops involved, call ahead of time and arrange everything.
Example: First clue leads her to a coffee shop where they give her the next hint and a cup of her favorite tea/coffee. Next takes her to a flower shop where they give her a single calla lily (or some other purdy flower)... go on around like this until the last clue takes her to a restaurant where you're waiting to meet her for dinner at a cozy little booth in the back. Might be a nice place to propose =)
Gaaah, I'm getting really sappy now. Lol... but I just love that kind of stuff. Do something that shows your creativity. Sometimes elaborate games and surprises can be LOTS of fun and she'll brag to her friends for years. |

Just for the record, I thought I would add that I would prefer to be proposed to in private. I just mentioned the dinner scenario above because some girls really like that. If it were me though... I'd prefer to be driven somewhere afterwards and proposed to. I don't feel the need for everyone in the food industry to hear. *grin* |

My aunt is on my case about getting a proposel out of my guy, but neither one of us is ready for that. He's 22 and I'm 19.
strata - for proposing to her here's an idea. Get a box of chocolates. Open them remove one of the chocolates (the middle on is good), have a wax chocolate piece made and place the ring inside it so it can still be seen, and place the wax piece in the place where you removed the real one. Have it rewrapped... many places can do that for you. Give her the box of chocolates for Christmas. This is really good after watching Forrest Gump! The whole "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get."
Well congrats Strata, and Good luck to you. |

First off, thanks for all the answers boys and girls =)
It's pretty exciting to be standing on the brink of proposal, I can tell ye that much )
I'm thinking that since we will more than likely have a big big house all by ourselves, I might as well send her off to meet one of our friends who she hasn't seen in months during the day/afternoon, meanwhile cooking a sweet dinner, lighting candles, and doing all that stuff...
Then when she comes home, dinner is served, the lighting is set, a bath is waiting afterwards (including massage of course ), rounded off by a proposal and fantastic sex =)
sounds good in my ears anyhoo... |

-something that they already have, but bigger, or faster.
-something their, friend, neighbor, or sibling has but better.
-something leather.
-something that relates to what they're into right now. if they like movies, get them a cool dvd set. if they like art get them some cool tools (supplies), books, or stuff from their fav artist. etc.
-pc game that they wanted but never got around to getting, fav band tees, shoes, glasses, stuff.
....maybe it's just me. |

yes, art supplies is what i would want. alcohol, recordables, comics, software books would come in handy too
i already have almost everything else i need, so what you should do is watch what they dont have, and off course, christmas is about the thought, not the presents... |
