Recently, my games started freezing up on me(for about 20 seconds at a time), and the sound would loop during the freeze, then things will go back to normal. Then it would happen again sporadically. What's causing it? The video driver? Something else?
This has happened when I tried to play Devastation, and CS 1.6 beta(using Steam). I tried both Open GL and D3D(DX 9), and it happens with both drivers. I also noticed some discoloration in the textures(rainbow colors) when I tried to play Devastation.
I have the latest driver from Nvidia, and I have a GeForce 2 GTS, running P4 1.5 Ghz, 512 RAM, and a few HD's that adds up to 360 GB(IDE). I clean my registry often(with JV16 Powertools), and I Defrag with Diskeeper almost everyday. As far as I know, my PC's in tip-top shape.
I've never had this problem in the 2 years I've had this PC. It only started happening very recently. I also have a pretty new reinstall of my OS(about a couple months old). |

I think I found the problem. I uninstalled the latest Nvidia driver, and installed an older one that was certified. And now, the problem seems to have disappeared. I'm still getting funky colors in Devastation though. ... |
