oh my! thank you Socar myles, Matthew and all others that gave me all that good crits. guss I'll just noodle a 10000 timeas and it will look like I've beenpainting characters a 10000 times lol!
about what matthew said: I think for us noobs, that character might look "OK", but most people here are very interested in art and they se all the non proffesional strokes in that pic. and some things do have to be very exact to be accepted,for example I remember spooge saying that ellipses should be painted round and "perfect", no matter how simple the sketch is. and some people (including me) just dont know that stuff like eyebrows, eyes and noses have to be very exact to make the face look good even though they are simple sketches. correct me if i'm wrong.
well thanx again!
great stuff everyone, and Elliot you got some serious shit going on there!! "oooo I like it" |

Gecko: I really love this paper-cut style! The 1st bird is just incredible!
Matthew: Sometimes i think that the knowledge and experience I would need to draw a hand with a few precise strokes comes from years of drawing from life. Mr. Mullins just needs some strokes, and they are fine. Maybe he thinks alot before doing them. I, for my case, doodle around, look at the crap I have done, try to figure out what went wrong, and make it worse. I don't think, that painting correctly (no matter if anatomy or anything else) is a matter of time (speed) but a matter of experience and training. I am not sure, if speed-painting helps with this problem. Maybe I should think for 15 minutes and plan ahead every stroke I will do in the following 5 minutes.

Made a spin-off while doodling online, the style came out a little different, something like classic transformers comics.

My version of Frankestien (ie or ei?). Not really a speedpaint I guess, spent nearly three hours on it. It was in color before, but I think the sepia looks better, so away went the pretty colors.
I'm slowly climbing back into the saddle, and that feels damn good.

SP #109-111 and 114
The last one took 20 minutes! Spooge, I dont know if you will read this, but THANK YOU SO MUCH. That little tip you gave to AndyT is my scripture! I studied your example all day during school (heck, it's senior year) and now I just need to frame it Thanks again for everything that you do (and show us). |

@All others, .. wow, this thread ... you dont even recognize if spooge isnt posting as much, because there is so much good work by all the people!
@anatomy in speedpainting - Discussion
I think you must be able to paint right anatomy in detail if you want to get it right in less strokes.
Its a bit like caricatures of faces, you have to reduce a complex shape the right way - you do not start with the reduced form in mind. Its all over complex in mind, you have to recognize the important shapes and in the end you just paint less.
Here is a new speedy from myself - long ago since my last one.
The idea is by a girl in a german art-forum, i just give it a try by myself.
here is the inspiration: http://tracesofchaos.net/hl/01_2004_chal_2.jpg
