Eyewoo: Wow!
Don't know if this should be concidered more surrealist than abstract? Wasn't really finished.
Here's another one. I made it by playing around with some of my drawings.

Nice works, Philip. I like abstract art when it pleases me, and some of yours do. My favourite would have to be abstract.11.jpg. Right up my alley!
I used to do a lot of these when I first acquired an interest for visual stuff. This is all filters and tweaking from oh... 6 years back? I think I learnt alot doing abstracts, because I was made aware of my personal visual sensibilities and interests. Looking back it seems I have a crush on subtle texture, (somber) mood and... quiet drama? I know lots of my contemporary pieces share those qualities too.
One of the advantages of abstract art (except of course never having to learn perspective) IMO is the level it communicates on. Craig's marks leave me dumbfounded and intrigued, but discovering a beautiful abstract will make me connect more to the artist's emotion, because it's more about me than figures in a setting.
Apart from that, I think abstract artists are specialists with a more focused, but narrow skill set than a naturalist painter. But I think they strive for many of the same things.
Here's a tiny but varied sample of what I used to do. Hope you people don't mind a mini-flood.

Torstein Nordtrand, Yeah, maybe abstract art can be viewed as a visual version of music! For me atleast they hit pretty much the same spot.
Like I hadn't embarrassed myself already with the previous pics.
