Nice work man you have some good detail in there. Two things I like to add though. First off, the image seems like a cutout. The right half is very hard cut and detailed, where as the left is too soft and dull. Making it seem like its two different images put together. You might be trying to make a DoF effect, but the ship isn't really out of focus, and the shapes are a bit too "handdrawn'ish" to fit the straight lines of the city. |

scumworks: Thanks! I see what you mean by a "cut-out", I was also giving my self the same critic. The ship is the 1st part I created, I would say that I improved very rapidly while working on this artwork so my technique changed naturally, and a totally different one was use for the city.
Thus, this is a very good critic that you are giving me, I must keep in mind style consistency from the start to the end. (I was not trying to make a DoF effect) Especially if its an illustration for a cover or something like that, in this case it matter a little less since its concept art.
Greensun: Thank you, I'm still on a long quest to eventually master perspective, and I'm pretty sure there are some mistake in it, but positive feedback is always fun to read _________________ http://www.letual.ca |

spectra i think the scene is awesome. but i hav eon crit/advice. the ship looks too... soft. and it shouldnt and im guessing u didnt want it to. it almost looks organic. so try using darker colors because of the fact that its against the sun. am i right? and try to use sharper edges. that should fix everything. and just do some work on the clouds. im in school right now, if i was home i would have done an overpaint for ya
oh i just recheked the picture n it almost looks like u copied n pasted into the picture. the ground should look a bit more.. grainy. just mess around with it n see wat comes out. along with the dust trailing up |

annisahmad: Some sharper edge (but most are already pretty sharp) I think you overall mean better/cleaner edge definition, and yes that would help.
The color do appears darker against the sun, but I really dont want it to turn even more into a silhouette (even if it can be nice) and depending on monitor calibration, the ship might already appear almost all black on some monitor. Nevertheless the main reason is that the 3D modeling team would really not appreciate such a lack of detail.
But anyway, no modeling team is going to work on that concept now, the art director of project hull-beach ("a work for free" to make a modification of half-life2 project) said that my portfolio was weak, that I could not even scratch the quality they are aiming for, and basically that this artwork (my pitch) sucked...
So... whatever... Im not going to open this psd until a few months to spend long hours cleaning it up; I'm just moving on and starting a new painting, keeping in mind the usefull critics im getting here. _________________ http://www.letual.ca |

The composition is a bit distracting, my eye wants to follow the length of the ship as well as the city and these are different directions. The rendering of the environment looks good. |

Gotta say, both pieces have great points seperately. If I were you I'd cut the image in half, and finish up the ship on its own. Also, the background kinda dies out, even if its desolate it might need just a little working and texture. Great work overall. |
