Let's not talk too much about composition, cause there isn't too much to say.
Edges, values, general tips on how to achieve certain things faster. I'm all ears.
EDIT: Here's a better quality image. Played around with contrast and saturation until it looked about the same as the real canvas.
Thx

well as far as values go I think it looks great. I guess what the first thing people look at in portraits are the eyes (instinct?) and perhaps some more contrast could be given that area to make him feel less abstract. other than that I think he looks very good proportion- wise, assuming he is that skinny and has such low shoulders.
the only thing that I felt stood out in a way that you might not want was the yellows in his face, they are perhaps a bit too strong while the other more pinkish areas of his face are great. also the color choices of the background might be a matter of taste but the dark yellows against slightly pink and violet kind of stirs the image up a bit (for me). also the classic trick of darkening the background where the subject is lit and vice versa could have his hair and neck more visible and not disappear into the background, but I can't argue that it works the way it is now either, its a matter of what you want to emphasize I suppose.
overall though great work, and in traditional even. keep it up man! _________________ homepage:blog |
