here's "inspiration."
Take two things and mix em up. Looks original!
I kinda liked something in this sketch, but not the design, of course. If a blackbird and a stardestoyer had babies, this is it.

I kind of have trouble seeing what exactly it is.
...I will come back later and see if I can make more out of the shapes. Cause right now I'm not getting anything. |

I've always been a fan of the mighty Star-destroyers. It also reminds me a bit of those motherships in Independence day.
Are they sticking out of a wall?

Nice spaceship, does it work ? -Can it fly ?
I like it that you've started to post things of all sorts, things you personally like for whatever reason more than the technical part. Kinda of make me more safe around you, knowing that you're a human
Hmm, Did any of these word make sense ?? Maybe there's some deeply hidden message to it ..

Quite neat Spooge! but I agree with micke's comment about them seemingly sticking out of a wall (dark sharp shadow at the front of the ships -- also the non-symmetrical division line on the top underbelly of the ship).
I love the style, sketchyness, and roughness. |

It looks like noise, but I'm impressed with the sense of space and volume you can read in it, despite (because of?) the noise.

It reminds me of the cover to one of the Dune books. All you need is a little figure in the foreground raising his hands up, praising the great sandworm |

I love it, whatever it is .
(It's funny how a few lines and some color can so clearly read "Craig Mullins".)
Craig, I would seriously LOVE to see you develop that image right up to something like 'reactor.jpg', with each small step (as above) posted here. It'd be great to see it moulded into a finished piece over a series of weeks.

What we're dealing with here is our basic spaceport situation.
What Spooge probably wanted to show us is the "big" feeling in this sketch. What's confusing the eye is probably that the shadow of the ship below goes all the way up on the wall anhd basically makes the ship stuck in it ... but wee're used to flying/floating spaceships ...
Kickass values as usual though ... grrrr!

Wierd.. you all see some space ships... I see a big freighter or something like that coming straight towards the moron sitting there painting (cause you have to be a moron to stand in front of a freighter) and it's about to hit that whale on the bottom... but you guys obviously see somethin different.. haha

Ah, give it up Craig..U'll never be a pro
Much different from what u usually do, it looks more like some weird alien poster... That mix of sketch and paint works nice! |

***feeling better now***
Ha! Joachim
This was a sketch for a game called freelancer. The ships are big transports and i was given the task of illustrating them docked. I didnt want to do the usual ships on a surface with cables everywhere so this was a thought to have them half sunken in a giant wall. I could see they drop a few H-bombs behind it to launch the things.
Chapel thinks it could be underwater, he even did a sketch of it. Neat idea.
I really like Hugh Ferris, the huge scale and lack of detail. Isnt it nice to see something that you can make out the forms, but you dont know what it is? Gives the imagination a little leeway.
The basic texture was an old painting just knocked back with some scumbling.
It does looks a little like the Dune covers. Some of those are really nice. A wildlife artist named Schoenner or something did those.
WElcom back, Loki. |

When i look at this picture for the first time i know exactly what it's suppose tobe because i'm a big fan of those huge space ship that you're often see it Japanese Anime. I hope you'll read my reply Spooge because I'd die to see the next step, when you add all the details to the space ship.

the star destroyer thing looks mighty fine, but my favorite part of the picture is that groovy texture in the background, howd you go about makin that? looks like loosely painted over masonite, then scratched up with a knife

Wow.. cool one Spooge... I love the warm colors.. Nice to see a change from the blues used so very often to indicate the coldness of space. Jim Hensons Farscape TV series often use similar lighting schemes with very powerfull results..
In this image it's actually very clear to see how you work in various layers of paint.
I agree with Sumaleth tho.. If you have time, do show us how you'd work out a rough image like this into the polished marvel that is your Klingon Reactor.jpg on your site.

It mystifies me how you get so much volume, and depth in such a simple sketch. Great colours, awesome as usual.

Cool! first time I looked at it I said "looks like big ships stuck in a wall"
And it is! Wahoo
very pretty. I'd really like to see that actual pic used on the game inlay or something. subtlety city |
