Hi!
I just finished this picture today... I wanted to know what you thought... For the most part it is based of the photo below.. If your wondering what its from, its from an old silent film called The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

Just a couple of observations..
His hand is WAY to big, and his nose is too long. Not bad, though. Keep workin' at it.

I'm pretty tired, so excuse the spelling and roughness of the sketch.
I'm very interested in this idea of yours.
Alot of learning how to draw is spent doing observation. We see faces everyday of our life and we can almost imidiatly spot things that are wrong with a face.
Keep it up,keep drawing. You're doing fine,
things to watch for..
the shape of the head, the centerline of the face. this will help you place the eyes, lips and everything else.
The ears usually run form the center of the eye down to the end of the nose, about the length of the nose.
Look at how the folds of skin are made by the eye, the socket they set in and the muscle that surround the eye.
The face isn't flat, so the lips that set on it are curved in space,as the face tilts or turns away from us, the lips go back into space. Look at the picture again, and look at the left side of his face (our right) see how the lip is smaller on that side as apposed to it being longer on the right side(his left)
Remember, the camera lens flattens images. Close one eye and look at something, then open the other eye, you can see alot more of that object. The camera only has one eye. Unless the camera is a little ways back from the subject, ah..i'm gettng off subject..anyway...
I hope you do more of these and while you're at it, try to draw a real persons head. You'll learn a whole lot more. Who cares if it doesn't turn out perfect, you're always learning. and part of learning is learning from your mistakes. As spooge sez, "don't noodle stuff around" i can't think of anyone who was born with the talent and knowledge to draw the human figure...then again..the more i think about it, I'm beginning to think fred was..but he's "special" hehehe |
