Hello. A quick note to remind everyone of a few changes happening to thee forums.

First of all the Digital Art forum split will occur January 1st, 2001. (Random musings is staying put) To remind you what this is read this post here: http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/007058.html

It will only be split into 3 sections, Gallery/Finished Art, Work in progress, and Discussion...

Due to the fact that things don't seem to be taking care of themselves and a lot of e-mail and feedback from people, i'm going to be more strict with the content of posts. I will be deleting posts that do nothing but insult people, closing threads that turn into flame wars immediately (i used to let them go for a little to let everyone have a say, but that was a stupid idea), and deleting accounts of people who after a couple warnings do not stop improper behavior. I will try to stay on top of these things, but will require your help in notifying me of problem people and flame wars that i might have missed (I can't read every single thread). I would like to try this first, but if it still doesnt help because i can't get to every problem, i will see about getting 2 moderators (one on this side of the planet and one on the other). But for now, still no moderators, but i am willing to change that.

And finally, a reminder that January Draw club will begin on January 1st, 2001, so if you want to get your November DC submission in, do it before then! I will be updating the Oct DC page and making a November DC archive page before that too.

Peace,
-dhab

Good job on everything Dhabih, I can imagine how hard it must be to try and keep track of this whole place by yourself. I also wanna see how everything is gonna go after the forum split, hopefully, everything will fall back into place

And as a side note, im pretty hyped about the next draw club Cant wait to start with it hehe..

I am extremely FOR deleting junk posts and junk accounts and just making major cleaning once in a while (yes, letting flamewars and stupid posts go in Digital Art Forum was a bad idea Dhabih). Although i don't agree with Forums split - why? Every mmorning before school i was able to check out only two forums - Random and Digital. And now 5 forums?? Bwaaaahhhjhgh... noo man that's not a good idea.

Shizo, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not as if he's going to add 3 forums worth of posts to this place...he's essentially taking all the posts here and spliting them into three different sections. Technically there will be the same number of posts to view as you have now. This will just make it easier for people that have less time than even you to check on the posts that they have more interest in. Overall it's meant as an organizing and time saving move. Hopefully it'll allow more people the time to post replies to artwork rather than wade through posts that they have no interest in at the time. Hope that makes sense and I hope that's how it ends up working to a certain extent.

I'm anxious to see what changes the split brings - hopefully things will be better, but I doubt it will change much until we start making things a bit more clear as to what a forum stands for and won't tolerate. I was proud to be part of a drawing/painting forum of professional artists, where it was both fun and serious learning from the great ones - it will be difficult to bring that back, and make it home to all those great ones again.

I for one was happy to see Danny G drop by again. =)

Dhabih, as you can see I'm still a newcomer to your forums, but just wanted to say thanks. I have learned so much in the last month or two, and hope that these changes keep this sanctury of knowlage safe and thriving for years to come.

Personally, I disagree with the split but its better then the 3d/2d idea.

There is already a discussion board for people who want to chat or post junk.

Also, I don't think too much moderation (read censorship) is a good thing. I think most every opinion can hold some truth in it -- so I disagree with the censorship. But not my board. =)

I do think the good thing with closing down a flame war is that the topic will not be at the top sucking up post.

Perphaps, instead of working on moderation some smarter software could help to give various topics more room? Like if a topic gets too many post then it will be moved down. If not just a few it will move down slowly.

just a thought...

Also.. just another thought. If the computer could handle the traffic it should be possible to let the user sort the posts anyway he wants them. He just goes to one forum and can select what combinations of forums to read. When he post he must select the forum the post goes too. If its a reply it must go to the same forum. This would let the user choose any combination he wanted (finished+non finished+disc) or just (finished+non finished).. etc.

I'm not sure if the computer could handle the load but it shouldnt be too demanding if the software just sorts out the first 30 post at a time.
