I've gone through the 3dsmax tutorials and done a few tutorials off some sites but I still don't understand how to add details, like muscle curves for instance, do I just need to practice cutting edges in the right place then positioning them correctly? (I'm practicing box modelling/meshsmooth/nurms..or subdivision modelling however you want to call it hehe |

Yes,You just have to play with Cut and slice
If You have max4 I prefer to use editable poly(true polygonal modeling tool) instead of editable mesh. |

with max4, meshsmooth the whole model, add all the detail you can with it (try to use the new control levels, love that shit), then when you know you're done with the overall detail, add a hsds modifier on top and subdivide just different parts of the model where you wonna add muscles and smaller details.... with some good texturing you'll get some kickass results |

The most effective method to using NURMs, is to start with a box, use the extrude tool, and the divide edge too to add complexity. Then I just move points around, Be sure you click the show end results button in editmesh mode so you can see final results..
I like to start at the top of the model and extrude edges downward. Also use the hide tool to get rid of too manylines when working in congested areas.
Just keep practicing.
