I'm of the 'write want you want to say, asshole' school of good writing. I've dabbled in Joyce a bit but never found much worth getting into there. it's interesting that he's famous though, because *somebody* should be famous for trying weird crap, but it doesn't mean we all have to like him and I think he becomes assigned reading a bit too often. but it brings up the question of how to best engage the mind, with torturous hubris and things we don't like, or only dealing with things we like? I don't know
