(WARNING: INCOMING TEXT IN BULK!)

I am not sure if this has been addressed before but I've been doing some thinking. (uh oh...)

Instead of posting a new question about this or that I often use the search option to check out this forums past discussions and find my answers there. I can often find what I am looking for BUT more often than not the post is filled with inactive links and X boxes where there once were useful illustrations. Time passes and accounts change, this is only natural.

What I've been thinking is that it would be a VERY wonderful thing if these forums could be frozen in state and ALL inline ( just pictures included among the text, not ALL links) images captured and stored safely in ONE, OR TWO OR THREE places on this gods green earth, instead of a single server which as most of you know had a near miss recently with that bungled theft.

There is a great amount of talent among us, I often read posts that talk of "how useful this advice is, thank for you for so much detail and how you would need to pay dearly if you looked this kind of teaching anywhere else $$$. And yet, here it all is for free.

I would like to direct your attention in the FINISHED WORKS section to Spooge Demon's Dr. Bang head lessons, and Merkat's latest (mouse post). Within both of those posts we have advice and teachings that I believe have great value and are worth preserving, in 3 months time perhaps only half of the posted pictures will still be up there and it will be difficult if not impossible to understand what the heck anyone was talking about.....

It just seems to be a shame to me that all of this work and talk slowly comes apart over time...

So I would like to ask:

1. Do you think the everyday conversations and teachings are worth saving, both text and all inline pictures?

2. What happens if Dhabih (god forbid) gets hit by a bus tomorrow or becomes Amish and swears off computers? Does this all come grinding to a halt? What then?

3. I don't know about you but if I could get a years worth of this forum preserved intact on a CD I would be more than willing to pay for the time spent compiling. (Due to copywrite though..........I can forsee a big can of worms being opened up over that but I think it bears thinking about.)

In closing: This is a great place today. It will be a great place tomorrow. What I am worried about is yesterday, should we all just let that slip away?

Comments?

I think recompiling great post and advices are a really good idea! Wonderful advices are gone away every week, for example Fred Flinstone wrote a HUGE reply on some picture, it was like 1500 words. Two days later, it was being pushed down the bottom by dumb threads by ppl like Stneil. So some post worth more saving than other.

2. What happens if Dhabih (god forbid) gets hit by a bus tomorrow or becomes Amish and swears off computers? Does this all come grinding to a halt? What then?

Dhabih should have a back up person ready incase he gets hit by a car.

Believe it or not, i handpicked 400 mb (3427 files) of artworks from this forum. Most of them aren't the best, but it teach and give me some inspiration when i needed.

type shorter posts, nobody bothers to read that much of text, and seeing as how it seemed to have somewhat proper grammar to it, it can't be a fight. boring.

Yes, a server backup would be ideal but I would guess that Dhabih is not made out of money and he certainly seems to have very little free time. I would be very happy just to know that the forum exists (WITH PICTURES!) on a CD somewhere...

faustgfx:

Perhaps I was not exact enough for you and you are trying to point out that one would need more than a single CD to store the contents of this forum? Hell of an eye for details boy! Keep it up!

Just exactly how much free time to you in your day?

Oh, and regarding LONG posts, I think that you have a point. But then again, I hate posts that contain a single word or sentence unless the postee is particularly clever, which is rare.
