Hmm.. The band has became inactive around 1998. Therefore there won't be any news.

Dumb hippies at TIME named them one of the top ten best bands ever in a very recent Music Special issue. |

It's ok, don't freak out. There are other great trip-hop bands to listen to. My fav is Lamb. Check them out. |

I've always been more of a Massive Attack kinda guy. The fact that Portishead don't use rap vocals has always given them some wider appeal though.
Lamb are cool. I dunno if I'd call them trip hop though. A hell of a lot more jungle in their sound (Barlow used to be an in-house jungle producer for some record label after all). They do wide variety of stuff really.
From the vocal side of things, Portishead fans really ought to look up Goldfrapp. Lots of tortured, sultry torch stuff there. The music is a bit more Spy-Movie-Soundtrack but great none the less (and frankly I think Alison takes Beth to school in the vocal powerhouse field. But I'm biased ) |

Massive Attack is really cool stuff. I also like the sneaker pimps... becoming x is a cool album. Now they have a male lead singer though, so I can see how a lot of folks wouldn't like their newer work. |

Has anyone heard of Hooverphonic? Their lyrics are kind of cheesy, but the vocal of their lead singer is awesome, and some of the songs reminds me of the theme songs of James Bond movies. |

Yeap... I have a couple of Hooverphonic albums, I meant to mention them as well. But I don't consider their music to be as dark/moody as the aforementioned Portishead. |

I'm going to have to look up Goldfrapp and Lamb. I've heard of Lamb, never looked into them though... :P
I love Sneaker Pimps, and I agree, their older stuff, with female vocals, is much better. OH well. |

*chuckle* Faustgfx is just pushing his Industrial barrow again (I assume). Note the KMFDM sig.
if you're into audiogalaxy and things of that nature look up 'human', 'deer stop' and 'utopia' by Goldfrapp (or the title track 'felt mountain', but there's no words. Fans of old Orbital and Tricky will probably recognise her singing). Not terribly trip-hop really, but there you go.
Some Lamb tracks that lean towards trip-hop to varying degrees are 'lusty', 'gold', the ultra mushy 'gorecki' and from the second album; 'b line', 'all in your hands', 'bonfire', 'softly', 'lullaby'. Generally Lamb's stuff is far more up-beat in lyrics and tempo than Portishead. As I said, they're a jazz/jungle outfit mainly. They do have this great dark undercurrent though (The track 'cotton wool' must be one of the best examples; turning fairly cutesy happy lyrics into a song of derranged, deluded obsession.)
