This is the shit they got me doing at work this week. My boss wanted me to do it all in 3d. I hate trying to make an image like this in totally 3d, it's frustrating. And what is funny is that this is for a really tiny print. Please give me some crit, as much as you can concidering the subject is totally fantastic. I hope. I didn't make the model.

REALLY nice, that explosion looks sweet, and you have combined the 3D and 2D images really well.

On another note, I hate it when they destroy the world in movies and they make it a close date like 10 or 15 years after the movie...Terminator for example, I think the nuclear blast that destroyed civilization was like in 1999 or something...I dunno about you guys but I think I slept through it

My suggestion would be to end your bosses world as he knows it and you'll feel fine.

Can't help any with 3D, but what I do notice is the angles/perspectives seem to be off. I'm assuming the ship is in the foreground and if it's going to be generating enough power to incinerate a planet, I would suspect it would be firing directly at it instead of a ~90* angle. On the other hand, if the ship is in the background (and that would make one big-ass ship) where it strikes the planet would send ejecta off at a different angle, almost towards the viewer. The impact/explosion does look good. Maybe pulling the planet more out of frame and showing more of an explosive impact?

My $2.02 worth...

Good luck!

there goes egypt
the ship & the planet look like they were totally different pictures. Dunno if it would be against the assignment but making the earth a tad bit more cartoony, or simple (with more saturated colors) might work. Would appeal more to my eye at least. Impact looks nice.
Huge wave of water?

Waldo. yah the perspective is totally screwy. That's exactly what my boss wanted. He stands over my shoulder and tells me how it should look. I had the impact on the otherside of the planet where it should be and he told me to make it visable without moving the ship or the camera. duh.

Anyway, thanks.

GreenPeach! You magnificent pagan bastard! Your talents are wasted on 3D. You should be painting this kinda stuff. Your boss must be smoking crack.

The only thing I hate are the wispy clouds. Well, that and the already mentioned perspective problems. The softness of the clouds conflicts visually with the sharpness of the rest of the image. Nice death ray though.

Ack, your 'art director' wannabe boss has obviously got some sort of a problem.

One of three scenario's:

1. He hangs around your desk telling you what to do becuase he is a control freak.

2. He hangs around your desk telling you what to do becuase he likes to hang around you. (better get a chastidy belt fast!)

3. He hangs around your desk telling you what to do becuase he is a control freak and he is cross-eyed. (cross-eyed would explain the wacko perspective.)

All three perhaps.

PS: I'd be careful about blurting your unhappiness about him out aloud in public.. Just in case someone knows him..

Delayed reply:

Pat?! That's obviously the nicest thing anyone have ever said to me on this forum.

swamp- very funny. What did those egyptians ever do for us anyway? kidding.

Collosimo- You're right, it's probably not wise to talk trash about my job on the internet. Especially when I work for a website. So... sorry fred. But you know you're a control freak so it's all good.

thanks everybody

Hiya GreenPeachy,
okay..here's my $O.02, nice laser rays and explosions.. aside from the whacked out perspective, i think the alien craft thats blasting the earth looks kinda hollow. The "Nozzle" of the craft needs some refinement. Something to give it Volume.

Um...I'll hafta agree with the other Pat! I've seen your Paintings section section on your web site.

How did your boss get to be in any kind of a postition to direct art like that?
