I met Ian Mckellen today at a book signing in Hollywood. He signed my sketch!
He also signed all 3 books from LOTR for me. Ian was cool!
(EDIT: Forgot to mention scale/materials)
Size: 8 by 10 inch
Medium: color pencil on illust. board.
Time: one day

I envy thee.
I only have one copy of LotR (which my sister has had for the past 4 months - she takes her time finishing it), but have almost all the rest stuff by Tolkien (John Ronald Reuel or Christopher), Silmarillion, Hobbit and 10 parts of 'History of Middle Earth'.
Coolness still. |

this guy is the greatest. he's working on refilming parts of LOTR and filming Xmen2 and he still goes to a signing to sign stuff? wow, he's my acting hero. anyway, nice sketch, what medium is it? chalk? I would go back with some white chalk or charcoal and add some highlights, however that's just a personal style preferance. you have a great likeness in this sketch. kudos and good job.

Yes, I really don't know how Sir Ian does it. In the past month or so, he's done just about every talkshow I can think of (Letterman, Conan, Kilborn, John Stewart, Politically Incorrect).
2 radio shows in Los Angeles.
Finished a run of his Broadway production.
This booksigning in Hollywood.
Golden Globes tonight.
Filming/refilming LOTR and X2.
etc..etc..
How does he do it? Keep in mind, that Ian McKellen isn't some 25 year old kid! All the more impressive to me.
As for the medium of my sketch, it's simply color pencil on illustration board. No chalks/pastels. Thanks for the kind words!

Ian rocks. It's a great sketch too.
Be thankful this is on an message board and isn't real life, or I would be sorely tempted to attack you and steal it. |

Kaete, thanks! I'll be sure to avoid contact with your sticky fingers!
Here's one I whipped up last night:
Now if I can only track down Sean Astin
