you'd think that if was going to sit around sniping stuff all day she'd want some more comfortable clothes. |

Why would a sniper shoot or hold a right-handed pistol in her left hand?

Because you need a sidearm should someone get in close range....
and damn.. you guys... its not about accuracy. Her wearing that kind of clothes could be just to fit her character.... if she was dressed up as a more appropriate sniper.... it would lose a lotta character.
I personally like it.. but the picture looks a bit too dark and muddy. Maybe brighten it up? I'm pretty sure the red light would cast on her far leg as well as well as the ground etc. |

...and by doing that, get a scolding hot bullet-casing flung right in her face? Now why would she do that?
It's a nice picture, but I personally think that people are taking this whole Tolkien/LOTR deal too far. A sniper rifle? A pistol? |

I didn't know that sidearms were left handed/right handed...
When a person uses 2 guns would one have to be a special "lefty" version?
No offence, but she looks like a hooker that made a break in the gun-sales business to get more dough.
It looks pretty nice - the bicep on the arm on the right looks very long.
The cordless phone is an unusual item to have thrown on the street. If she's using it for communication, she'd have to be very close to her own house because the range of those things aren't really very long.
Snipers usually wear clothes that will make them blend in...it's not about being a fashionable character or not...it's just practical that way.
I notice the comments i've made don't really proceed in a logical order...I just wrote things down as i noticed them. |

I like the pose and expression on her face Did you use reference? And some crits... The phone seems a bit low tech device, since it seems she also has some cyber stuff in her left wrist.. I'm not an expert in anatomy but the left arm bicep looks long to me. |

Hey, first off, great picture, I dig. Yea, maybe the costume is a little impractical but, if you're like me, you grew up with the X-Men so a little detail like that in a fantasy/scifi painting isn't an issue.
As for the pistol question. Yup, there are left and right handed pistols (same with rifles, revolvers, SMGs and so on and so forth)- the big difference is the location of the safety and what side the brass (spent ammunition cartridges) are ejected from. A left handed pistol would have this on the left side so the brass would not be thrown into your face when the pistol is fired (and vice versa for right handed pistol).
Again, though, I think the important thing to realize in this situation is that it's not a real-life portrait (she's an elf, folks!). So, I say, if someone gives you a hard time about little tiny details like that just reply "The gun fires case-free rounds" and be done with it.
Again, I love the image.

nice concept
but where's the red light coming from?
it seems so strong on the figure but there's hardly any evidence of it in the surroundings. ...or maybe it's just me, then. |

wow, some really interesting, and wierd comments so far, so here is one more!
i really like the positioning of the elf, the clothes look fine. we need more hooker elf women anyways.
only two concerns. that red light source, its only on one area of her body, but seems to be a very strong light. need more red around that area.
the perspective of the floor and the wall arent right. and now that im looking at it again, im at a loss of words on trying to explain why they are incorrect. i just know the perspective is wrong!! trust me!
anyways, nice pic, reminds me of that animated movie "wizards". |

H@RH@RH@R... you sarcastic b@stard. *
But he's right, she looks like that kinda crack ho who's hardly able to hold heir jab calm rather than somebody trained to eliminate enemies at long range.
*)No offense intended. Plz don't ban me. Kthnxbye. |

people, people, people. please. those left sidearm, left handed pistol or hooker like clothes are not the issue here. i was aiming for the art crit and comment. not the logic perspective.
but if you want explenations for all the mistakes so here they are -
first - the lack of red light source, lack of identifing objects that'll clear up where the location is, and the fact that she wears these clothes are here for the individual interpretation. it's more fun to make up a story in your head than just have it on a plate ready to eat.
but it you realy need it so -
this elf is an assasin, working undercover (which explains the clothes). she always carries a pistol for close incounters. she uses the pistol with her right hand. not left (which explains the location of the brass). the location is indoors (which explains the papers and the phone that might have been damaged during the firefight). maybe inside a building where she did the "hit". the dark look is cuz the lights are off and only the emergency lights are on (explains the red light on the left. it's a red "exit" sign). she had a tough fight which she ended using her pistol (still, using her right hand though she dropped the rifle close to her to manouvre easily). after the fight was over she sat down where she was and grabbed a smoke. she is right handed so she holds the cigarette in her right hand. since she can't smoke and hold her gun in the same hand she moved it to her left hand, but is still keeping her rifle close to her, just in case.
that's it.
does it soothe your mind folks?
about the perspective - i can't see what is wrong. looks fine to me. i'd correct it if i can see what's wrong. thanks though.
and the bicep seems too long to me too. it's just that it goes with the body proportions well so i can't really tell what's wrong here too. the upper arm should be this long but i got something wrong here. damn.
thanks everyone for the replys. some aren't really related but amusing even though.
