This is just a coloured version of a paper & ink sketch that I was doodling yesterday. Guess I just fancied trying something a little different with different mediums.
A scan of the original sketch is available here.

Only real note is that for a soviet-esque image, the figure would never of looked so laid back and relaxed. That pose is far more american. The legs would be ridged and together, and his hands would NEVER be in his pocket. He'd also probably be looking up slightly more.
Nice style otherwise. |

roundeye: Cheers. I'm glad you posted, I lost the address for your forum. Mind you, I should have remembered the domain name.
Satan: Hehe, thanks.
Cos: Cheers. Have you played around with Painter much, or do you work primarily with Photoshop?
CyberArtist: That's a very interesting point! On all the WWII posters, the Eastern bloc countries tend to have soldiers/workers stading upright either holding a gun/hammer high in the air. The guy does look a bit laid back and... well... American.

Actually, I think the pose makes it a bit cooler...humanization of the soviet union. |

wus: Nice idea, might put some text at the top.
Wolfe: Thanks.
madmouth: I'd be inclined to agree with you. But as I said on the post, it's just a painted over sketch. I could have done it as a painting but just fancied trying something different in a different style. Of course, I'd be grateful if you could elaborate on "something".
Hellshad: Yup, it's a layer in Painter set to Gel. I think Gel is supposed to be the same as Multiply in Photoshop layers. The airbrush tool in Painter has a spatter brush and this seems to be the only concievable use for it. |

ceenda I've started trying to learn Painter recently, and use it along with photoshop for more textured work. It's pretty tough to use (drive u fuckin nuts tough! heh) but I like it, I probably just need to hunt down some tuts. |
