I kinda hummed & haa'd about posting this here, as it's completely out of the context of the thread it was intended for on another forum. (A themed character self-portrait thingy)

Anyway, any crits would be greatly appreciated.

With regards to a self-critique, I think the lighting could have been drastically improved, as I didn't properly specify a lightsource before delving into the painting and subsequently the lighting on the coat doesn't quite work.

Lastly, I've decided to stick to just posting art and critiques here now as it's just wayyyyy to hard to understand what people are saying here thesedays. Could just be the language barrier, translations, etc., but there are just too many mis-understandings here to make any kind of forum based dialogue worthwhile.

hmm agree with all you said(selfcritique and forum)
I like the lips and your eye the best and I think you did very good using colors instead of grey tones at least for the lightsource.
Are the blacks also colors? -I think not but I can't read it that good...maybe it's my TFT

i think it looks great.. i love the subtle play of warm and cold on this piece, and the different materials work really well. if there's one thing i don't like that much , it's those light beams at the top.. it has a weird texture, and feels a bit off balance. i might be wrong though..

Hey hey, why is this nice image on the bottom of the page with only three comments. I really like the style and the idea. It has very cool sci-fi dictator/warlord flavour in it.
I agree on the coat and the lighting. Also the left side of the pic looks confusing somehow. It's hard to say where the collar ends and the shoulder starts... the shoulder looks too small anyways. The scar going over the eye jumps out too much and looks like its pasted on I think. I would make it less dark and more subtle, closer to the skin tone.

yeah, i agree with your self-critique. the face looks really great though!

edit- one thing, actually. the eye, if it's open (cant tell, it's dark in there), seems sort of stretched horizontally. a bit wide and that's all.
