Hey, I just bought my friend's 19' monitor, a nice upgrade from my 15' (13' viewable) p.o.s. Anyhow, I decided to try some dual-monitoring, and stuck in my old Creative Labs Riva TNT 16 meg PCI card. Now, my friend told me that I have to stick the PCI card in the slot right next to the AGP port, otherwise it will not function. So far, I have had no luck in getting XP or 98 to recognize that I have a 2nd monitor attached, but the TNT comes up as problematic, and cannot be started (Code 10)....
Does anyone have a helpful multi-monitor setup FAQ page of some sort handy? I'm gonna go check out the MS Knowledgebase, and itll prolly take me hours to sift through it. Im'a gonna try swapping the PCI card in different slots, cuz I know i've had probs with which slots my sound card and my modem and my PCI vid card were in before I got my AGP card. Oie.....
Anyhoo, thanks for your time! _________________ Just remember, when in doubt, even monkeys fall from trees sometimes. |

Search here to see if anyone else has been successful with your configuration. I had similar trouble to what you're having, and found that my s3 virge (yeah it's old as hell) wouldn't work. |

Hey, thanks for the link! Funny thing is, I found that site on my own this morning and resolved the problem. So in case anyone else tries to get dual monitors working later on, I had to change a setting in the bios which scanned/booted PCI video cards before the AGP, so when I boot up, the cruddy 15' monitor is showing all the logs, but as soon as windows started, the bigger monitor turned on. After that, it was just setting the big monitor as the primary monitor in the Display properties and everything works fine now.
Thanks for the help though. _________________ Just remember, when in doubt, even monkeys fall from trees sometimes. |
