You've been watching Vyle's Gnomon DVD, haven't you. Razz

The good - Interesting vehicle designs, I really like them as they remind me of the Bubble Fighters from the Lost in Space movie. You've also got a nice depth to the image.

The 'could be better' - It doesn't really jump off the screen. The ships need something to give them more interest - a color that contrasts with the rest of the painting. Like flashy racing stripes-type designs or maybe a little red light or 2.

Sometimes it's the small things in an image can make all the difference.

+1 TJ Wright.

Flashy warm color stripes can do it. A red based color can be fine i think.
Also you can renforce the main curve of the ship and add more contrast. Some of the cloud in the foreground can be more detailed, constrasted.

TJ Wright and Pet Yes! Exactly that Smile Thank you. I knew sooomething tiny was missing but I couldn't put my finger on it. At one point i started experimenting with some red danger-extreme-heat labels but i wasn't too sure of myself so i dropped the idea.. I think that'll do thank you very much Smile
As far as reinforcing the main curve I'm not sure how to do that without adding one of them comic book black stroke lines Smile
And yes, i've been watching Vyle. But I'm not to proud of myself using his brushesh Embarassed and I like to see it just as a step in a learning curve Smile Don't want 2 become another clone Smile

There's nothing at all wrong with using the Gnomon brushes, that's why they're so freely available. Wink I still use Vyle's Rock Formation and cloud brushes simply because all the versions I've created myself are just no match for the simplicity and effectiveness of his.

The DVD's also very inspiring and it's hard not to try and emulate his painting after you've watched it. Very Happy

As for reinforcing the main curve, it just needs some weight to it (I think that's what Pet means) - probably just use one of the darker tones from the ship itself and beef up the edges.
