Hello there everyone... are we still doing cubes in here? I've been away from the forum for almost a year, and when I came back I found all this awesome classroom-type stuff going on with Fred & Spooge and everyone (you guys are the best for doing it, BTW). Am I too late? I'm desperately in need of this fundamental stuff.
I did a search but couldn't find the next lesson. Is there a naming convention you guys are using for the subjects so they're easier to find, or should I just make sure I get my sorry ass in here everyday like I used to (as a lurker)?
Anyhow... here's my cube attempt. I didn't want to put it in Paint along with Fred because I thought maybe it was a defunct thread?
I can see that there's many things wrong with it, but I can't put my finger on what they are. I'm very new at this sort of stuff, so I'd really appreciate any crits you guys could lay on me. I'm pretty sure I went about making my cube wrong (looks skewed). And I know there's supposed to be two cubes, but I'm taking it slow >8)
PS - Is it just me, or is this forum like the only place on the net where so many talented people can get together and help each other learn?! This place has really evolved into something special since I was last here. Dhab must be damn proud.

Hey Blind. Welcome back. I found this site just a little bit before all the cube stuff started and I have to agree that it is one great resource of artist willing to help.
As the cube lessons were going some people where getting impatient (as you probably read) and the next related lesson was the head drawing lesson. I disapeared for a while after that so I'm not sure if another lesson was ever started.
I would critique your cube for you but I have to eat and run back to work. I'm sure someone will be along soon to do the job who knows better then me how to critique.

Cool, thanks for the info, Gimbal. I'll try and search for the head tutorial and see what I can find. Searching under Mr. Flick Stone usually turns up a lot >8)
I really hope these lessons don't die out here. I can't tell you how many light bulbs were going off over my head just looking at all those diagrams you guys were posting. Really helpful stuff!

Blind, you should read through the original thread. At the top is Fred's actually notes and instructions and on the following pages are lots of notes by Fred and Spooge. |

Hey Blind, you're right about this forum being possibly the greatest, and yes, Dhab should definitely be proud of it -- I owe the guys here a lot for their comments and from all the discussions. Very few places do have such professionals like Spooge, Fred, Loki, Francis, Suma, Mozers=), Micke, Joachim, and so many others -- giving out a free helping hand that is near priceless.
Dhabih and all the guys, thanks.
As for that cube, cylinder and cone thread, it would be cool to continue it -- I'd feel more confortable with myself if I got at least one done 'right'. |

Yeah, Frost. I totally agree.
This forum is great. Just think, five years from now this forum may be something of legend. A virtual community of artists!
I grew up in a small hick town and had practically no peers in the local area. With technology, now we're in here interacting with pros, hobbyists, and teenagers from all corners of the world. It gives me goosebumps to think about it. Wish I'd had it way back when. Would have gotten much further much faster.
And Spooge! We get to hear direct advice from a digital Wyeth or McQuarry in the making. And see HIS evolution firsthand. Delireously exciting.
I like your stuff, btw. Admired the Lobo-looking dude with the gun I saw all that time ago. And saw your stuff from last year. Huge leap in skill. Keep doin' it!
