Im a newbie with graphic programs such as corel draw,PH,painter to name a few.
Which program is the best to start with if you are a complete newbie??
Im looking for a program that can add effects/colors to a hand drawn sketch + simulate different graphic tools.
I would really appriciate if someone could gimme some advice on this matter

For a starter the Corel application suite wil give all of the tools you need (vector and bitmap). In fact they are very similar to the Adobe programs (Illustrator and Photoshop). But like I said for starters, the corel application's do not have nearly the robust power, that the adobe family boasts.

Anheuser Busch uses corel draw for their sign making program. (ie. the signs you see advertising specials at your local pub.)

start with photoshop, that way when you do decide to switch to it later ( like anyone who isnt a complete fool would ) you wont need to re-learn the locations of tools, commands, and just the basic usage of the software. might as well start with photoshop from the beggining because its the best of them all, and why waste extra time and money when you dont have to, not to mention the majority of tutorials online are for photoshop and the number of photoshop learning books you can buy from amazon.com alone... is a pretty big number. if I was you, I would start with the best and continue using the best.

I've had some luck with Paint Shop Pro, version 6 or 7. Nice thing about it is it's cheap, but has all the major features of Photoshop 5.5 as far as I can tell (I've used both extensively). In fact, I think it does a better job than Photoshop on some things, like vectors, which surprises me, now that I mention it...
