Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know that tomorrow is the last day for submissions to October's 'Artist of Depth' Competition. We will be accepting entries until 12:00 midnight EST. Also, for 2D artists... we have decided to allow you to work from scanned images!!! Novembers theme is going to be "Heaven and Hell" so if you dont have a piece ready for this months comp you can start on next months theme. Also we have a new sponsor starting in November. Electric Rain (http://www.swift3d.com) has graciously donated a copy of Swift3D, their 3D Flash generator. Here is a brief rundown of the contest details in case you don't know what in the heck I am rambling about:

October's Theme: 'All Hallows Eve'
November's Theme: 'Heaven and Hell'

Deadline for entries: 25th of the month

Winners Announced: Last day of the month

Image Requirements: 1024x768 jpg

Prizes to the overall winner:
1 Copy of WorldBuilder Pro
1 Copy of Deep Paint 3D
1 Copy of xFrog by Greenworks
1 Copy of Dosch Textures: Broadcast-Design
1 Copy of Dosch Movie-Clips: Animated Backgrounds Vol. 1
1 Copy of Dosch Music
1 Copy of Dosch Sounds
1 Copy of Dosch Voices

*Plus the top nine other finishers all recieve a copy of xFrog from Greenworks!

Competition URL: http://www.critical-depth.com/aod.html

Hope to see you enter!

Also,

I know that this forum is predominately 2D... so what kind of prizes would interest you more? Alien Skin plug-ins? Give me a list and I'll see what I can do!

I wish I had time to do something for this comp, looks like a good one. Be interesting to see how long it can go .

As for prizes, please keep Alien Skin and similar products as far away from digital artists as you can. Leave them for ma and pa making fancy xmas cards.

I think a lot of people would be interested in Painter. Most people have Photoshop, but Painter is something we're all curious about but since there's no demo of 6 it's hard to know whether to get it.

Registered copies of 3D Exploration might be worthwhile.

I'll keep thinking.

Row.

I would like to see the next contest have Sasquatch for the top ten people(www.worley.com). Maybe get a hardware manufacturer to donate some hardware for the grand prize?

Anthony and Sumaleth,

I have emailed both Worley Labs and X Dimension to see if they will be willing to sponsor the comp with copies of Sasquatch and 3D Exploration. I will post any updates here.

Flexible Elf,

I did have a lifetime supply of Nabs set up for the competition but was drinking one weekend, got the munchies, and ate them all! Please accept my humbles apologies.

Prizes ... hmmmm ... I'm not too sure. Programs are kinda cool but if we wanted them, we'd probably have them. I use predominately PhotoShop and try to stay away from filters as it seems to be 'cheating' sometimes anyhow. Besides that, anyone who knows stuff can always pick a lens flare.

hardware is a tricky one as there would be configuration issues and if the competition is international, maybe world market issues. Maybe something like a 'gift voucher' for somewhere like amazon.com or similar might be a gooer.

Ask and ye shall receive my brother! Sumaleth... thanks to your suggestion, beginning with Novembers competition we will be giving each of the top ten finalists a copy of '3D Exploration' from X Dimensions! Just got an email back from them and they have agreed to donate 10 copies of '3D Exploration' per month for six months! Thank you for the tip!

Cool site, cool contest Eric. I posted news of it on our site, which is largely 2d oriented (despite our name.) I notice most of the entries are 3D. Just wanted to reinforce what was said earlier that I think to build up more interest from the 2D community you should definately try to get some wacoms. I see most of your prizes are fairly high end, certainly more expensive than most wacoms, so I'm sure if you can convice those other companies to donate prizes, u might be able to get wacom.

I also think subscriptions to magazines would make great prizes. Mags like PCGAMER, Game Developer Magazine, Computer Arts etc...they'd all be awesome.

Take it easy

Immi,

Thank you for the kind words concerning my site... both in this post and on 3dpalette.com. I will try to see if I can get Wacom to lend a hand. I will also see if I can dig up some magazine subscriptions for the top ten finalists each month. What else can I look for? Are there any other tablet manufacturers besides Wacom? Or are they no good? Maybe some big ass monitors? If you let me know I will at least throw myself at the companies feet and beg for stuff :-)

Thanks again,

Eric

The only other tablet maker out there I know of is Calcomp, but I believe they went out of business. I have A Calcomp tablet, it's sort of like a graphire.

Oooh... big ass monitors... drool....

Dryfire,

We do have one flash program making its debut as a prize in Novembers competition... it is Swift 3D.

I have been wondering about Painter... Corel is a large egg to crack but I will give it a shot. Same thing with Adobe.

Vardelith,

I did that already this year. Had a competition which spanned six months and gave away close to $20,000 in prizes.... it was one of the biggest nightmares of my online life! LOL! Probably won't do it again. The smaller contests are fresher and people remain interested since there is winners each month.

I have been trying to get Wacom's attention but it hasn't happened yet. I think I will sick the dogs on Corel tomorrow for Painter.

Good man, thanks for considering my Ideas, I'll probably be competing from now on. I tried to make the deadline for this months pic but I just can't let my pic go! And yet I must still finish it for my own selfishness. Hmm this month Heaven and Hell eh, haha If I could only put all of my thoughts in one picture well perhaps I shal try...
