I was just reading around here and came accross this guy. Wow! amazing. Do you think he copies photos to get it to look like that? I can't possible imagine creating something that looks that photoreal without using a reference.

Jason I agree with you

but I'm interested how you can tell he used photo ref.
only by taking a look at the colors?

I know he didn't use colors a painter would choose but the colors he used wouldn't apear
on a photo that way either

..just a thought

Look at ""?Usted gusta?""

you can see how he copied glare, film grain and other artifacts.

when you come to a such degree of realism , your paintings are taken for photos, where is the interest ? , of course there is somewhat of a technical challenge there but IMHO, it is only cool for practise (and only if your photo reference has a good lightnings settings or if you re painting from life)

Painting the life the way it is ,could be cool but you have to sign your picture and add some personnal settings and creativity on the work

why Painting, when you can do the same with photomanipulation or painting-over ?, the result is quite the same. I prefer a good photo hung on my wall rather a photorealistish painting ; if i want a painting i ll probably choose a very stylised and soulish pic emerging the artist genius and creativity.

i ve personnaly tryed several times to make photorealism pics from photos, and when you stand back, you realise it doesn t give you much interest and relates a creativity score not very far from 0

My Guess is for Photo Copy too. Still. I'd have to sit down for a year or so to figure out how to get Prismacolors to do that. I'm impressed at the technique more than the pieces.

Are photorealistic paintings so distant that you have to conclude that he used "photographic reference" for his paintings ?

You've seen spooge do it (the whitehouse, for example), and if you have been to any art gallery, you'll see even more of it. Thank about that.

Did it ever occur to some of you that those presented are photos OF his drawings? I've had to do this with some crappy lighting and cameras and you get the same glare and grain. If you look close you can tell they are highly detailed traditional drawings photographed and jpgized. Pretty amazing ones at that too..
