I actually did this a month ago. Did'nt
have much time to use on it, so it is pretty much a rush-project. If looking at the magazine cover closely you'll notice a lot of
rough areas. Anyway, here it is:
I'm not too happy with it personally.
They allready had a concept sketch of what they wanted, so i just did it. Very cheezy
Tell me what you think.

The eyes are messed up it looks like. The whole image looks pretty rough for something that you have done. It looks nice though. |

Wow, micke! I think this is very cool! Especially love of those clear and smooth color areas and lines. They're nice.
I like the explosion on the background. It gives nice atmosphere and it's also very nice contrast with the character in front. Explosion=aggressive motion <> character=still, calmness
Cool touch... and you say that you aren't happy aobut this. Oh man. I always think that some of your pictures have nice touch with quite few colors/shades but they work fine. I'd like to get same talent.
Have to ask that how much time did this took from you? 'Cause you said you haven't much time. :I

Wow, this is great Micke! I really dig it (surprise surprise).
I especially dig the clothes, very clean and nice. It looks so uhm.. "dead on" not too overdetailed or anything. Really nice folds.
Although I think you overdid it a little bit with the explosion lighting on his face coming in from his left (our right)
Do you have the pic without the cover around it?

That is one solid looking jacket. And the lighting on the sleeve is heavenly. Is good!
The Tank looks like a 3d model with only a texture and bump map on it though... is flat! Oh wait... those are sketch lines. I guess you were in a hurry. Don't grieve over it - the dude is the standout attractor on this pic. |

Hey, micke, compare the angle of his nose with his ear, doesn't it look a little odd?
I dunno, but to me it looks like his face is painted as if it was facing the viewer straight on, but the rest of the head is at an angle..?
I think the pic looks great otherwise, I really like the colors!

Like it micke. The only thing I noticed that looked wrong was the eyes. The pupils don't appear to line up.
Did you have to take into account where the demo cd would be placed? |

Thank you for the comments.
Yeah, they eyes are messed up, but i cant do anything with it, since the magazine is out allready. Too bad. That's what i don't like with tight deadlines. I did'nt have time to
do anything else than paint. What i needed was to take a break once in a while and look over it for errors I guess the eyes get trained to do that when you're experienced in doing things with little time.
Kaiju, It's very rough and it looks even more rough on the magazine. I simply did'nt have time to polish it.
Yourmum: I think it looks cheesy But that's the way they wanted it. It took 2
evenings including the sketch.
Binke: Thank you. I used a referance photo
of me with a gray jacket and copied the folds. I'll post another without the text
in a minute.
Sergenth: yep, the tank is a realtime model slightly changed, hehe.
metalfan: Yeah, you're probably right..
i think it's mainly because of the shadow from the nose. Thank you.
Axl: I only got a rough layout of the whole
cover so i could see how much space the character could fill and stuff. I don't think it was a demo cd by the way..
Shizo:They were gonna have a big article on our game, so they asked me to do it(since
i work on it and had time to squeese it in my schedule).
I'm gonna take a closer look on the picture
and see if i can see any more errors.

You are the king of folds! This is a great piece, even with all the "rough edges." |

Dunno, micke. Cheesy or not but I still love it. Hmm... you can never see your sign on the cover of magazines. They never show your autograph on these. Just came up my mind.

.. .. ..
That's awesome micke, I really love the fire glow light on the right side of his face! Rough areas are nice, they give the picture a "painting look", which is very seducing sometimes. (I did say sometimes. I don't want people to think rough's better and always do rough, no no no!) Project IGI is written bigger than Dune 3! We had our gameboy color game shown in a european magazine after ECTS I think.
My only complaint is that you are better than me. Actually, the perspective on the tank is a bit off. Though you don't really notice it, because it's not part of the main field of view. |

Thank you Francis(snake).
Very encouraging to hear. I just watched the layers on the picture and they are very dirty and rough. fragments and brushstrokes outside on the character. It's very viewable
on the magazine. You say the perpective is off on the tank? It's a 3d model
I'm sorry i have'nt had time to reply on your mail.Joachims mail goes for both of us i guess.

Micke - No harm done about emails Yes, Joachim spending his days with you at work probably knows enough to answer for both of you. And about the rough look, well I doubt people other than artists like ourselves won't notice anything. Or, should I say, as long as the PUBLISHERS aren't mad, you're OK
3D model?? Da-oh !

Very, very cool Micke. I like your color break up, and brush strokes a ton.

Hi Mike,
I really like your picture even if you dont like it yourself. I cannot find anything wrong with the eyes and like a lot your lights on the face and the way you painted his face features.
Great work
cheers
