Looks very nice. Backgrounds aren't really my specialty, but the mermaid looks quite spiffy. Maybe if you made the tail a bit longer it would look better though. Just a thought

very nice todate. The face is really nicely done. I'm usually weak with backgrounds at the best of times but obviously and underwater one. Because the character is looking straight at the viewer, you could have the character partially hidden in gaint sea weed growing from the ocean floor.

Hey you got a nice start there. It's really funny because a mermaid is one of my current progectd too....great minds think alike! well I would suggest alot of hair. make her hair long, and flowy like it would be underwater, that should take up some room. What about fish? Don't forget plant life and bubbles. and if you wanted to, you could make her closer to the surface so that the sunlight is kind of filtering down through the water onto her. Well those are just my opinions and ideas. (I'm full of em! ) later DeZ! |

I've never liked mermaids. I don't trust them.
But I do like your pic so far! I'd recommend you extend her tail end by quite a degree, she appears to come up short but then you've just sketched a very basic outline so you may well have that in mind or more will have it resceding into the background. Nice! I agree with the comments about the eyes, you've got something there.

Just a tip on the color. Since it will be an underwaterscene (i suppose?) i think you sould go for underwatercolors directly. right now it looks very dull. lika really old person on a gray day =)

Yo People,
Thanx for ur response, i'll keep your ideas in mind.
Dezi : Thanx for the good tips, never thought of fish myself . Right now I'm working on the hair. Only thing I don't know is what color to use... but I can fix that afterwards.
Tiger : I already fixed the tail, i'll post the new version later. I'm glad somebody noticed that, I had the same feeling.
Simon : When I started with the face it was supposed to be an B/W drawing, but when I gave the eyes color I decided to color the rest too. So I'm working on that.
Thanx for the response ppl. Working hard on the drawing so I hope to get it done soon.

My advice would be to figure out what you're going to draw before you start drawing. Things generally work out better that way.
