I personally have nothing against the art. It's the constant droning on about hormonal teenage suffering and filling the forum with meaningless swears and filth.
I enjoy the art, any kind of art, its the attitude thats the problem |

Spitfire - I'd like to say that I really appreciate this kind of art, and it's what I've been mostly interested in for a few years now, collaging painting, drawing, my photographs and 3d work.
I really like your work, and if you'd like I'll send a more thoughout critique by email.
I realized when I posted some of my work back in October that the regulars here do not take kindly to photocollage, and have a nice assortment of reasons for thinking it isn't a valid medium. I wonder what Dave McKean would say if someone told him 'I don't think you should be using photographs - you should just hand draw everything...'
As someone who can both illustrate and design, I prefer to combine all of my skills rather than limit myself to hand-drawn work.
This piece is very good, and establishes mood and emotion as well as any 'traditional hand-drawn computer work' (what an oxymoron).
Keep up the good work.

SNakey,
Greatness is not a physical entity. You can't hold it, touch it, breath it. Greatness is relative to each person. Some people say Bob Dylan is 'great'. I think he sucks. So this whole physics analogy is wrong, IMO.
I never said your paintings sucked. I said your design sucked, the very thing you are saying is so simple to do.
Your math is faulty because greatness, as you claim, has to equal something. It doesn't in your equation. I would say Sijun is more like a sin wave. It oscillates. It will get better and worse.
Your slavery analogy doesn't make any sense.
At all. Gramatically or otherwise.
And if READ my post, i attributed people moving out to arrogance, which you have graciously displayed.
I'm done putting forth my energy into this. I suggest everyone read this http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/008041.html and participate.

Many of you havn't been around this forum very long.
Many of you have.
Those of you that have, know that it started out more or less ENTIRELY as a digital painting forum. God forbid Dhabih use the word art instead. Obviously the forum has been drowning in more and more photo manipulation, logo, etc art. More graphic design than painting.
Guys, I've never been good at painting in my entire life... I LOVE graphic design. I don't paint, I do photo-manip... that and animation. Do I post my work on here? No. Why do I come here? To watch the works of others who DO paint. That's why the forum was created in the first place, regardless of its title.
I've been here since the forum started, so the whole "Digital Art Forum" name deal doesn't exactly pursuade me. Yes, people misinterpreted it. Yes, it needs to stop. Why don't you guys go to Topaz's forum? DBM's? Anybody's. They welcome graphic design, etc, and have small sections for painting. This is one of the web's LARGE sections for painting.
Painters waited a long time for this, and went through little or no replies in other graphic design forums. This is where they can feel safe.
Leave it be, it's not that hard. |

from Sijun.com Forums F.A.Q.
"Can I post about animation/photo
manipulation/graphic design etc?"
"Yes, definitely. The forum covers all
aspects of visual digital art. Any lack of
activity in a certain area is simply a
reflection of the membership. Don't be put
off by the large contingent of traditional
artists, comic style artists, industrial
designers and general 2d illustrators.
Although often requiring different skills,
the digital arts all share a similar
knowledge base." |

I think its unfair to pick on this particular piece of artwork or style of work. I wouldnt describe 3d work as digital painting but it doesnt get the kind of response this topic has gained. If you ask me there is a lot worse being posted on this forum that what i see here. If i have to download another picture of a half naked women holding an oversized cannon i'll throw up.
People complain that digital art doesn't get the recognition it deserves, what do you expect if 99% of the work out there consists of perverted sterotypical females. If its so important for this place to be respectable and on topic then removing this kind of work isnt the only kind that should be banned. |

hi
i didnt read through this whole thread, skimmed some of the posts, but this is a digital art forum, not a digital illustration forum. I think that the majority of the people here don't mind the photomanips and other stuff like that. If you prefer digital illustration, and you come by a thread thats like this one, just go on to the next one. I really don't wanna split the forum into art styles...what if maybe someone might not like comic coloring, so then they want another forum for that so they dont have to see that....you know? it just gets split into preferences. The name calling has got to stop too. I'm not doing much about it till the new year, but start practicing being nice please.
