I bought a good photoshop bool the other day. it has all sorts of cool painting tricks, stuff I haven't really played with. Probably good book for new users.

it's called

the Photoshop 5/5.5 WOW BOOK. All color pages. Cost about 50 us dollars.

The "Wow" books are usually pretty good but normally you can't be a 'beginner' with these books (the illustrator one has some kewl ideas too).

Another one that I really liked for ideas was:

"Bert Monroy - Photorealistic Techniques with PhotoShop and Illustrator"

(ISBN 0-7357-0969-6 for those who are interested)
