hey there,
just about 3 weeks ago, i started taking an interest in 3d animation, and started getting a few books to read to prepare me to start learning. one of those books, "character animation with lightwave 6" has a chapter talking about developing u'r character, and they have a section talking about maquettes. basically, most of the time they're made of polymer clay (or so they say in the book), but i can agree why. it's an artificial clay which doesn't dry and crumple, yet hardens like plastic if u put it in the oven. i have experimented with polymer clay a while back, and can easily say that it's a wicked material to sculpt with. a good brand is Sculpey (or Sculpy.. can't remember). if u'r interested in using this, look up polymer clay in a search engine, and u should find some pretty good resources on to use it properly (it really helped me out). sorry for dragging on, hehe. hope this helped a bit. |
