I think it would be cool if we knew how old people are when they post. I think it makes a difference in they way things are critiqued. What do you think people? |

Couldnt that be implemented like the amount of posts or from where he is, under the name of the poster?
Would be a good idea methinks. |

Age is totally arbitrary. There are teenagers here with more art experience than others who are 30+. It would be a meaningless addition IMO.

Ya! I think it would be another field that you enter a number in. That way if a guy is 13 and he posts something that is really out of proportion you can give him a little different input than if he is 32 and should no better. |

And if a guy is thirteen and is totally kickass it is an inspiration to some of us older guys. Besides i want to know what the younger dudes are doing. Gotta stay on top so i can keep my job.

I dont like the idea... why should a 13yr old get dif crits than a 30yr old? it doesnt matteer how old you are just as long as you can draw/paint/whatever.
I think it would just lead to age discrimination. |

I disagree.
I think the younger guy would get better feedback if we knew his age. I have never heard of age discrimination. Knowing someones age is directly related to how you interpret them and possibly their work.
I think it is neccesary in order to make a correct interpretation of a piece. |

Nah, waste of effort setting it up. Anyone who doesn't want you to know will not fill it out anyway.
If you want to know someones age, ask them. |

Interestng idea Schwinn... I think I understand what you're sayin' here. And it is certainly true that to really understand a piece of artwork you should have a feeling for where it's coming from.
As I think about it tho' - I kinda like being on equal semi-anonymous footing with everyone else here -- regardless of their age. It's just avoids any possiblity of age-related thinking. The work itself is the focus. Ah well... I see the arguments on both sides.

Hehe ..
Go look under random musing .. there's a post there asking how old people are.
It resultet in everyone telling us their, shoesize, length, weight and everything else but their age...
I think it WILL result in poeple inputing they are like 400 dogyears and 41 cm and all that stuff.. Noone would really care.
As someone said above. If you want to know their age, ask them. There are young people here with way greater talents then the oldies. etc..

Inclusion of total number of years/months spent drawing/painting would be more interesting. Age is irrelevant. |

If we knew how old everyone is (and everyone was telling the truth), us older folks (and I'm only 24) might get really depressed at how far behind we are. It's harder to put aside those feelings and be inspired by a 14 year-old when you're 24 than vice versa. |

I think if someone wants to know, they should ask. I personally wouldn't put my age or sex down for that matter. That way there's (less of a or) no bias.

Most people have home pages where they plainly say their age or give some clear clue of what their age might be. Some of them have resumes, pictures of themselves.. giving good clues if it's so important to you... although I don't think it should be. Try your best, and look up... always learn and take in knowledge from discussions and image analysis... there's a lot to be learned for everyone... it's endless, it truly is. Age is a relative thing and an abstract.
Of course we'd all wish we were as good as Craig Mullins is now while being only 13, but that's only wishful thinking, and it doesn't even matter.

I looked in the Random Musing and all I saw was a bunch of pics of Faust.
Anyway, I guess that is what makes this type of forum unique. It is not like an art school critique were you know who everyone is and their basic abilities. In this forum everyone is on an even keel no matter what their background. I guess I just dont like the anonomity. I want a little more personal info before i make a decision on a piece. That's just me. By the way I am 27. Old guy i guess. |

Yes, we all know how that can hurt.
It's kinda the Forums' version of hazing.
