...And by the way Josh... I just read your response in the other thread with this title (19 replies) -- All I have to say, is you're a spineless shit. Too bad the harsh reality of learning this lesson will be the ruination of every career opportunity for the rest of your life. It's all about who you know, Josh... Believe me...There are very influential people on this board... Consider your career in any art related industry officially over.

And what will happen now? ...nothing... he will get a new nick and stay here. There's no punishment. No disadvatage from ripping off others work. Everything stays the same. And soon there will someone do the same thing again and smile in their room while all you good guys argue about it and shout at him...
Life is a circle.... =/
[edit] that smiley on the top line was an accident .... not at all[/edit]

Why not let him rip off the work? Don't you realize that if someone hired him they would find out very quick that he can't really draw what the portfolio showed?

MILKMAN:
"ever told someone that some artwork was yours when it wasnt. I mean I got a pic when I was a teenager and gave it to a girl so it would impress her..so I am guilty.."
Yeah, strange that Milkman thinks its common place for people to lie and steal artwork... I don't get that, I don't think that is at all the norm. How does anyone feel good about that? This is a serious mental disfunction...

I have said it before and Ill say it again to any/all users who I both offended as well as any work that I claimed as my own. I am sorry. I meant what I said above, and I simply was acting stupidly. I guess I had hoped to impress a few people or help me get a job by shopwing my diversity..I dont know. all images have been removed from my site and hard drive..including ones I did myself that had nothing to do with the Sijun forum. I can apologize to each and every member on here if thats what it takes. I dont plan on coming back here, so you should not have to worry about me at least. I never profited off of anyone elses images, works, ideas..etc..
Again, I realize the consequences of my stupidity and while you cant trust me, just know that I wont do it again.
I hope we can conclude this matter as I wont be coming back.
Again, my most sincerest apologies to everyone.

It's not YOUR diversity. You lied and mislead in hopes of personal gain.
I don't understand deleting your own work. It must be more lies.
Let's see some of your work, oh wait you deleted the evidence.

(As for myself, all the images I post here are just doodles as a hobby, trying a few subtle things, seeing how people react and learning from that. I find what Josh did very very stupid and childish, but that's that... what offends me really in this ordeal is that if my work is getting attention elsewhere I am not aware of by companies and such, then that is probably some important and possibly advantageous contacts that I get stolen behind my back. Of course I'd like to do well in this biz, and the possibility of someone getting/stealing advantages that I as an "artist" should be getting, well, that just plain hurts. This is what... the 3rd or 4th time this happens here? Imagine how many other kids out there are doing the same without us even knowing... (also realize that there are some people RIGHT NOW on these forums who are doing just that but hiding in their corners quietly, hoping to get away with it.))
I'm fed up of reading about this though... wish we could move on now... |

The illustrious Mr. Gans has responded yet again...

Hello
I realize you have absolutely no reason to read or believe what I say
below, in the past and ever in the future. But, i wanted to apologize
one last time and let you know that I fully understand both what I did
was insanely stupid, as well as realize the consequences of my actions
and how it affects you as an artist, and the game industry as well.
Obviously I took my site down, all the images contained therein, and
removed the works that were on my hard drive as well. I do not wish to
keep this issue going on, and all I can do is apologize and feel guilty.
Again, I realize you most likely do not care or believe me, but it is
the truth.
I have not ever profited from any drawing or 2d artwork. I am sorry for
any grief it has caused you, and I want to attempt to reassure you that
it will not happen again in any form.
If there is anything else I can do, please do not hesitate to email me,
and if it is in power, I will do so.
Sincerely,
Josh
Josh, the only thing I have to say is this; I work for your ISP. I'm bringing this to the Abuse department because of fraudulent behavior of the account holder.

this interested me..
he posted this in a thread
on december 27th :
"I work at Seven Studios on the X-files game and on Legion: Legend of Excalibur as a 2d and a 3d artist (primarily 3d).
------------------
3D Artist
Seven Studios"
www.sevenstudios.com seems to be legitimate site..
i just don't get it.... didn't one of mongoose's alter-egos say, before he was explosed, that he had accepted a job doing graphics for the 2004 olympics or something?
perhaps there is a single guy behind all this stuff with a very odd psychological disorder or something

hmmm. you would think that this would be the case, however I recall that one of these rip off artists got 4 months work or something. (think it was gabe reiser whatshisface).
I really get upset when the person has been here for ages, posting stuff and giving crits. It's very off-puting when you don't know which of the people you talk to on here are going to be full of it.
Worthy has claimed to be a modeler at Viewpoint digital. (don't know if that's true)and (I think) to have worked at Neichmen (sp). and as FatPenguin has pointed out, at sevenstudios.
How much of this is true? because he had me fooled. and I really don't like that.
It Sounds a lot like the mongoose thing. |

Just one word for the people who think we should 'forgive' or who think that showing somebody else art to impress your girlfriend is fine. I would agree with you if this guy was a 14 years old, trying to show off and get some attention from his high school buddies (a guy like Binder basically). But we are not dealing with a 14 years old here. We are dealing with an adult, a con artist who's trying to get money from other people work!
What would you say if you were looking really hard for this freelance gig that has been offered to you, you really need the money because you have to pay you rent and you owe a lot of money. So you really need to sign that contract. But at the last minute the client is telling you: sorry, we gave the job to Josh Gans, because he showed us a very impressive portfolio with a lot of different styles. You won't get the money, Josh Gans will get it. How would you react to that?!?
I know that a lot of people on this forum just do art as a hobby, and for them stealing pics is probably not a big deal. But you also have people making a living out of art. When somebody steal their pics he's taking money from their wallet! This a VERY serious matter. This is not a joke, this not a prank. This is SERIOUS.
And I'm glad to see a lot of people are concerned about it.
Let's not forget this name: JOSH GANS

Look, get over it. First of all, he apologized, twice. Secondly, he's a fucking moron because you can't submit a portfolio you didn't make and expect to stay in whatever company hired you for very long, because you can't produce the work! And furthermore, when the company discovers you are fake, your reputation is screwed from the head down especially since companies can push this information across the globe.
I don't care if he is 14 or 30, it doesn't make a difference. I think he took this stuff down not to shut you (some people) up, but because he realized he couldn't do anything with it. It's simply pointless.

yeah yeah. The whole murderous rage thing gets old after a little while. Besides, worst case scenarios are never good bases for moral judgement.
Can we get rid of that other thread now? I know how we ended up with two, but surely we don't need them both any more.
If he is a con artist as you say he should be making a fortune in advertising or journalism any day now and you won't have to worry any more. |

I agree with Muzman. The breast beating is a little much.
A side point is think what this anger shows. It does kinda illuminate why you do art. Money, praise, recognition?
I am just a name here, what does it matter if I made an image or someone else did it? Maybe I am getting a little out there, but I don't see how it makes a whole lot of difference.
This has made me examine my motivations for doing and showing artwork. There is a little gorilla deep down there that wants to break legs when I get ripped off, but he's REALLY small.
The more evolved portion of me is happy making and sharing artwork. Mine or anyones.
I really did not feel the need to get all bent out of shape when Gabe Reiser reared his head. I felt sad, bewildered, amused. It was not worth more than a few minutes of my time.
If someone profits by the theft, or harms my ability to support myself, that is a different story
Hehe, I bet I am gonna get yelled at for writing this, and I do admit that I didnt do the best job of expressing myself, but its all I can do right now.
Oh yeah, and Josh Gains has done himself more harm than all the lead pipes could. |

Chris,
Margie passed this on to me. Sorry to hear about this - it looks like we should have hired you instead of him.
Seriously though - we fired Josh a couple months ago, so I hope he isn't claiming he still works for us. He was only here for a month or so. Just curious - how did you find out about this?
Thanks for the heads up.

I thought you should know that Josh Gans, who claims to work for you, until today when he was caught had been using stolen artwork as part of his portfolio. Including theft of my artwork.

(arrgghhh... two threads, crap.)
Oh my god... ok, just reading this thread at first I couldn't have comprehended the depth of your nastiness and actually felt a little sorry for you... I figured maybe you were just some dumb kid... but seeing the actual site... holy hell! I've never seen anything stupider in my life. You grab a bunch of work from high profile artists and just plop it there as your own. HELLO FUCKFACE?!?! Um, if you are a good artist, then a lot of people will recognize your work and I was shocked at all the rip-offs I saw there, and I don't even browse digital art that much, but art is a PURE TALENT field. If you're good people will know your work. There is no way you can steal other people's good work and not go unnoticed you piece of lazy trash.
And then you lied here like a fucking dog about you were just doing copies and that you had tried to give copyright info... erm... that's not anywhere on your page you FESTERING DICKLESS CON ARTIST! You just STOLE other people's work, put your ugly signature, and then even had the perversity to give descriptions of 'YOUR' work. Your apologies only show that you are not willing to take responsibility for your actions. Turn yourself into a police station right now, that's how you can apologize for this. I think people should prosecute you, because if you did this, you definitely have no fucking scruples about being a con artist, and to do that on the backs of some of the hardest working, most soulful people on earth... Like I said, I really wanted to feel sorry for you at first, I assumed you were just some dopey kid doing something silly, but after looking at your page there is no way I or anyone else could feel sorry. People don't get much lower then you, the only good part is that you set yourself up for a fall with your own blind greed and hopefully you'll soon be behind bars or out of contact with human beings...
but I bet what is going to happen is you are going to get off without punishment, without repurcussions, without hinderance... I mean the graphic industry is huge, and you probably could fool some lousy companies, and no one here seems to care about taking action against you. so go to it man! we look forward to seeing your real skills, we look forward to all the lens flares to come from the talented, deserving, true artist - josh gans. who cares that other people actually CARE about art, WORK towards being an artist, and have some fucking shred of hard-earned integrity. there's plenty of work to go around so that any ass off the street can put foward his 'portfolio'
(I do have to wonder if you are a professional con man though, and skipping around the graphics industry is your latest gig)

Spooge,
You said it all.
On a side note, that's the funny thing about 'art' compared to music (assuming there is a singer), you just cant say that is you singing with the band, everyone would know you were a fraud. With 'art' your audience is blind to who you are or what you look like (unless your are very famous, that is).
