What the hell happened to these forums? I just came back from a nice long trip away, and where is everyone?

Micke and Joachim are busy with freelance work and their jobs at Innerloop. Loki's been posting a bit, and so has Craig. Fred Flicks Stones hasn't been around in MONTHS.. busy as hell giving lessons and working his butt off. Francis Tsai... hmm, dunno... heck... (*shrug*) ... well, [Shizo]-bum is still around... |

and we all know the "revisitability" value of sijun.com is owed to the few artists that everyone likes to "suck" up to...random musings is far better than that finished work "empty praise house" gallery land...

There is just too much junky posts and threads to filter through. Most of the professional forum members (like spooge, Loki, FFS, etc..) work all day long.. not 9-5 like most normal jobs, so its kind of hard to come here in their spare time to read through all the posts. It is especially annoying to see posts with lots of replies and half of them are useless banter going back and forth about nothing to do with the post. It also makes me not want to post period, but that is just me. There seems to be a major lack of respect here lately and that alone will keep most of the more serious artists away from the forum.

True true. I really find here the problem is lack of educated replies. Wow that's awesome, that's sweet. Your Awesome. Just doesn't cut it. And sorry to say this but I think about 90 percent of the stuff posted on this forum is uninspired (spelling wrong) crap.
That's just what I think. meh. |

I think a lot of the things people post on here is near stick figure quality. I think the ones who post this kind of stuff should hold out until they can improve themselves more before comming on here, posting something like that, and then saying "HEY NO ONE REPLIED TO MY POST, WTF??". I think quite frankly people who see these types of work are too fustrated to have to try and critique the artwork when so many obvious problems are shown.

Hmmm....yes I suppose.
people who post work riddled with obvious mistakes and requesting help to which they know the response is simply uncalled for.
eg. Blantant anatomical errors, such as having the arms rediculously long when their going for accuracy and asking "Can you see anything wrong".
When surely only those of a retarded nature could not see that error in their work.
Or maybe not, I'm not fussed about things at the mo.
About that crap comments issue:
Its OK sometimes to simply say- Sweet!, choice, excellent etc sometimes. Occasionally you don't have any crits though still would like to show your appreciation for their work. |

If I could speak my mind a little... here's what I'd have to say.
I use to participate a lot more in these forums trying the best to help people if I could. I use to know most the people here, know what stage they were at, what their level of knowledge and experience was, and that made it easy to comment and help at the level of that person. Now with the sheer number of members there are, it's really hard to follow and remember who is who and who did what and what is improvement over previous attempts... or maybe I just started losing interest.
I'm no god nor the ultimate wiseman of art (although I guess I sometimes behave as though I am - I guess I do take myself a little too seriously at times (like now - who wants to read this anyway?) - sorry), but I do have a decent experience background with digital images as well as 3d concepts and programming, and I like to share the knowledge and strategies I have gathered and researched (things not normally explained in art classes and books at times)... but I often feel the effort I had put in and do put in is totally disregarded, buried in time and space... feeling as though no one gives me any credit, ... threads, discussions and explanations I thought were important and valuable to the forums are just abandoned and forgotten... jsut makes me feel like giving up the forums entirely at times.
Then there are people who will not take advice or criticism because they think they cannot improve (or at least not be told what could be improved by a simple guy like me)(somewhat guilty of a bit of that myself up to some degree), certain people who have had some success, have a niche for themselves all carved in marble, and think this is it - Godliness. Also, there is this constant flow of newbies that don't read the FAQ, don't look for past threads on a subject, and keep asking the same old thing every time... I for one get fed up of reading those, and don't feel like re-writing a whole article about something I have already spent time researching, formulating, and writing in the past, but just lays in dust.
Whatever. I guess I'm not as important as I think I am, and maybe people think all I say is bull and don't take me seriously because I have no true art education. I don't know, but I hope that's not the case. I'd like to make a difference, but I'm just swimming in dust somewhere. I've been contributing more in the past week or so... I've had a lot of time on my hands being sick at home and all,... blah... I just want to help and be appreciated for it... I feel it would somehow bring some meaning to my otherwise rather bland and meaningless life.
eh. Expecting too much from my little worth. Maybe others feel the same too.
cheers to all.
frost.

Maybe a lack of professional artists is what we need. They seem to draw attention away from the ameuters who really need the help/attention. imo, of course.

I feel the same way Frost. Too many members makes it WAY to hard to keep up. I remember when I first came to the forum I was afraid to post any of my art. I still am actually. I'd like to think I know alot about art, but I myself have not gotten all of the mechanics down. I don't think I'm anywhere near the level of the forum members I admire the most. (It bugged me when I was being mentioned amoung them in some cases.) But I digress.. Now when I come here I just and spot names I know or recognize. Which is usually someone I admire and I really can't find much to say in a form of crits. I don't crit to many others because I like to see if my advice was considered, and I don't remember the threads to check them. |

I know what you mean frost. What you say makes perfect sense, you too Chapel. I personally don't think things will ever be as good again. But then again, change is to be expected. Besides, if the people were really good at art, they wouldn't really need to come here. Exvcept for a couple who do |
