Well I'm a tard and initially posted this over in the finished gallery.....sheesh

it's a little piece (actually it's about 11 x 17) that I started this afternoon...he's a character I'm working on..a bit of my online persona.

This is only about a 30 minute drawing so far...let me know if any glaring anatomical issues jump out at you!

Nothing anatomical jumps out at me yet. I'll wait until you have the line drawing all done.

But I would like to know how your going to solve compostitional challenges?
Is there going to be a background? Is it going to be a battle scene? Show the whole weapon?

Great job so far.

One anatomical thing i see now is the elbow in the background. The point of it seems a little high up on the arm.
Sweet line work though.

You might want to put in a suggestion of an elbow for his left arm. Even if he's holding his arm straight out the play of light over the arm will put a little shadow where the skin follows the form of the elbow.

Another things is that holding the spear in that position is pretty tiring, not to mention awkward when fighting. Bending the elbows and wrist even slightly will help loosen up the pose.

One thing I have to commend you on is the face. It's excellent. especially the way you drew the eyes.

His thigh should taper a little more toward the knee. He has big knees.

First off.. Great char!!
Totally agree with burnout bout the awesome facial features. I also agree with Earthwrm on the bending of the elbows abit more.
I think the wrist.. the way its angled, is abit off.. one way to check it is to grab a baseball batt and do the pose as u did facing a mirror. If u gripped the lower part of the axe (i'm assuming its an axe and not a spear hehe) with your left wrist angled downwards in that position... u cant really grip it effectively, i bet when u swing it and the axe makes impact.. it would fly off your hands. And also William is right on that knee needed some tapering. Overall A great piece. .. oo one last thing it would be kewl if we could see more of the Axe.. right now.. it seems the axe's perspective is a bit off. again just my 2 cents.

hi! magnificent character, you seem to be really good at male anatomy, i love the head, the arms, the legs, the han...!!!

where's the hand? do i have to suppose that you hesitate at the time of drawing hands? well, i must recommend you to spend a time (a month?) drawing hands, many hands, copying your own hand, others', et cetera. I assure it works.

(sorry if this is not your case, but it can help others, too )

congratulations, i love it!

Very nice work. I noticed you called it a Sea Wolf. I didn't read everyone elses posts so I may be repeating something, but it really, REALLY looks more like a Lion than a wolf. It has the distinct(especially nose and mouth) facial features of a cat. I dig the design though.

*updated the image yet again*

I fixed the angle of the blade amongst other things...I actually had to scan this image in two parts to get most of it in (I'd have to go for a 3rd scan to get the rest of the legs....
I appreciate all the replies!

earthwrm,William, and Laemtao:
I completely agree on the anatomical points made. I corrected the knees and gave a bit of a hint of an elbow on his left arm. Unfortunately...and this applies to iface's hand comment as well..I got too involved with the rest of the feel and left out worrying about the hand until later. That got me into a world of hurt! Truthfully...as many have pointed out..it's *physically* possible to hold a battleaxe like that...but not very practical!

iface: As far as drawing hands are concerned..I agree completely. Spending oodles of time drawing them is the only way to master it. It wasnt so much drawing the hand that was the problem..but getting it to jive with his arm and axe!! A little more foresight on my part would've helped.

Shade01: hehehehe..I was hoping no one noticed. When I was talking with SourPatch he brought up the same thing. I initially was inspired by White Wolf's :Wolves of the Sea (werewolves of Nordic descent) I briefly skimmed the book in a comic shop and was a bit taken by the idea. However...my actual drawing ended up being more feline than canine in bent. I for some retarded reason still kept the Sea Wolf line (partially because Sealion would've inspired thoughts of Shamu and SeaWorld!)

Anyhow..next up is coloring this thang. I've been messing with it and I'm getting a headache. I think being a penciler for comics is the route I want to go.

Thanks for all the help!!

It's looking really good *cream**cream*.

Try scanning half and half and putting it together in photoshop. That way we can get the whole image.

We need to see the bloody battle axe.

I would like to see another scene from this characters battle.
Maybe later eh?
