Exo.... if your reading this, that opacity presure thing sounded kinda nice, so I wanted to try it, but I couldn't find it. Which program are you using? I'm using PS

How do I paint that and how do I make it look blond?

The mouth looks quite wierd aswell.
Are the eyes positioned correctly?
Also, still need help with coloring.

The light source is supposed to be positioned a bit to the right.

Hey again Kinten!

Im not sure what version of phtshp your useing but I myself use 6.0.

�f you also use 6.0 you can find it in the paintbrush optionsbar on the right, the button that looks like a paintbrush. There you find the "opacity" menu, klick it. Im not really sure what it says on your computer but mine says "Stylus".
You should play around with the diffrent options that this menu can give you. Some people like to use the "size" option.

But you really should get the anatomy and perspective right before you detail your painting. since its a bit off, it will save time and will look better in the end.

This is how i usally do it when i for ex make a portrait.

I paint a very rough background so i can sense the "mood" in the painting i then select a few basic skinn colors, then i just draw the basic shapes of the drawing, put some shadeing on it so i can see my errors on it more clearly. The painting is still very basic but i have a good idea how it should look like. After that i just add the details.
Its just a rough way of I do it but i think you get the idea.

You shouldnt drown yourself in new things, do the basic stuff first. Anatomi training for example.
You cant make a nice painting if the anatomy and perspective are all off, doesnt matter how good you are with colors.

Just make sure you have a sketchbook on you at all times and draw people you see, study anatomy books, take classes.

Exo's right, if you're having trouble with anatomy and placing the lines in the right place, you should start there and practice only black-and-white line drawing, maybe pencil or charcoal, with some rough shading if you like. But forget about color and smooth gradations and details for now. Also, the human face is just about the most difficult thing you could try, that means it's very good for practise, but it also means you may be discouraged if, as a beginner, it doesn't seem to work - by all means stick to the face and body, but don't get discouraged.

BTW for beginners photos are also good, since you can take your time with them.

bld's rough facial anatomy fill in.

Head is about 1/2 - 2/3 as wide as it is tall (varies between facial structures, really heavy set people have about an 4/5 to 1/1 width-height ratio)

Head is 5 eye widths wide (varies with perspective nonetheless)

Mouth a little below 1/4 height, bottom of nose about 1/3 height, eyes exactly at 1/2 height, hairline (non-balding of course) about 3/4.

From outer corner of eyes to bottom of nose you should be able to draw an equilateral triangle (or equivlent of, changes with perspective).

Top of ears equal to eyebrows, bottom of ears ends at bottom of nose.

Eyebrows are about 1/2 an eyes height above eyes.

And please guys, point this guy in the right direction if i screwed up anywhere, I am flawed, and may give flawed advice time to time.

also, the eyes are about one eye-length apart... bld's covered the rest, i think... mr. stahlberg's right, though, you should start with black and white stuff first... for the hair, i'm no expert, but remember that most blond hair isn't just yellowish... i think don seegmiller (www.seegmiller-art.com) put it best when he said that hair is normally different shades of a person's skin color... blond will have browns, as well...

Exo, I found that option you where talking about and it's really helpful! It gives the colors a nice nuance..

I changed the chin a bit. It's really hard to change stuff when you have started the coloring, but on the other hand, it's easier to see the errors when it's all shaded and stuff. I guess it's a matter of training.
From now on, I wont start painting a sketch before I'm really satisfied with it
