Prolix, saw it awhile ago but I don't remember where. Maybe someone on the forum can direct you to the site. I hope it wasn't on 3d-palette..... I didn't download the tutorial, just read it off the site and started working.
You know, it was off 3d-palette cause Craig had his tutorial thing going on there. |

nicely rendered image...good details...very clean and professional in quality.
doesnt feel like she has any weight...like there isnt weight on her legs...and her arms seem more than a bit short....she also doesnt really look like a person who would be a samurai..looks more like a girl that would go to high school with you..like an every day girl...or a girl from that show facts of life.
one thing to think about...when doing characters...is "what actor would you want to play this character?"
when I think of samurai chicks I think more of michelle yeoh more than lucy liu. while I would rather date ms liu..Id rather have ms yeoh defending my castle.
akira kirosawa had great male samurai's as far as looks go in his movies...they were tough..haggard...wanderers...battle hardened...
they didnt look like someone modeling a suit of armor...

I learned these lessons the hard way..hehe..i made tons of pics that didnt have appropriate characters...or so I felt...but this is all only my opinion of course. |

Jason Manley, she's actually a graphic designer in our office and I chose her cause she is totally the exact opposite of what this characters tre nature should be. She got a kick out of it anyway. |

well..If that is what you intended then that is completely valid.
I do want to reiterate that I didnt mean that it should be cliche. I hate cliche....
your stuff is tight....I can appreciate it totally..
my only crit is that you should work on getting the poses to be a hint more gestural...more weight...more of what they might be doing or feeling (visual life to the character)...and work on proportion...but details...you have that mastered...
and also...nice head...very well painted.

Some one mentioned that they liked this one so I thought I would post it for y'all. Based on the armoured suit tutorial that Craig did. |
