Very nice.
But if you are going to work on it again I must say that I think the background could do with some small alterations. Besides looking like the rudder is a little off center the whole aft of the sinking ship looks unlikely flat to me, especially under the waterline. The rudder would simply not work. (it's late now I should go to sleep so i only had time for a quick search. just some model )
And as tepox said I'm not sure the smoke is working.
I like the diagonal "detailfocusing" (or if it is by light?)

Overall a lovly picture

Hahaha, the bored pirate in the foreground is hilarious. Imagine his train of thought in the next three seconds: "Man, is this boring or what? Nothing going on over here, I think I'll just turn my head to the left and HOLY SHIT!"

That looks great. Only thing that struck me is that the water looks a bit more painted than the rest. Maybe there should be darker darks in it. But maybe it's just me.
Nice work. I even like the composition that you think is so odd.

*Crit here*

Well I too think the image is very good. (dont even know if you'l read this but...)

I think the water right in front, with big strokes, looks somewhat unfinished compared to the rest of the pic.. also on the lower shirt sleave of the lower guy, right near the bottom where the cuff is. almost too scribbly.

anyways I do admire the picture but I think those two areas make it look unfinished to my eye.

Crits: Just a few first impressions: It appears a bit dark and dull, perhaps the background should have been brighter, sorta to give it contrast. Use atmospheric perspecive or another background perhaps?

The highligts on his nose annoy me.

Perhaps the rope thingies are too flat in terms of shading?
