there has been a lot of very interesting bw stuff floating around here lately. as i have been doing some bw work too i thought i might post this bunch here. comments on technique are very welcome as i'm just playing around, trying to develop a comfortable personal working style.

hey great b/w work... great technique and style, almost no lines just volumes that flow from the contrast between the black and white forms... reminds me a little frank miller's sin city... keep on the good work!!

I like these Janne. The first one is excellent. It's my favourite. There is little too much scribbling everywhere overall in the second one for my taste but the technique works very well on the facial area. The third one is very cool too, those floating symbols are neat. I guess these are made with PS?

Really nice stuff!
I like the second one, how the blotches and scratches become first graphic lines and patterns and then almost typographic forms.

The rendering of the faces is excellent of course - actually I like the second one best in this respect too, the pattern is really unexpected and "alive" but shows the form perfectly.

Good b&w stuff is for me one of those "how the hell do they do that" things

Great drawings my friend. I really like them all, though I have a thing for the last one. Wicked stuff as always. You should have posted these in the medieval b/w thread. We need to get that thread up and running again!

Rhomb: yeah, these are photoshop. i agree that the second one is bit too "busy". should clean that up i guess.

sfr: thank you. actually working bw with computer, at least for me, isn't very different from color work. because i find it awfully difficult to do lines with wacom i end up with with technique closer to painting than drawing.

BooMSticK: hiya! glad you like these. third one is my favourite too(and i thought you might like it ).
actually, i originally had in mind that i would have contributed to that awesome medieval bw thread you guys had going on but these got bit out of hand and are not very medieval at all(well, actually that king would be but i only finished it yesterday).
i don't have aim installed and my computer acces is limited to weekends as you know. but i'd love to hear what you have been up to lately. how about irc? irc.enterthegame.com #teamgt ?

These are great! I love how you are using symbols and shapes in them. My suggestion is that the shadows and anatomy on the faces could be tightened up a bit by looking at a face that is lighted in the same way.
