you sure now how to make things spooky. that girl freaks me out. overall the pic is outstanding, reminds me the house of terror at disneyland with those creepy family portraits. how about a close up of the girls face?

I almost never do paintovers, as I fear I'm really not helping anyone with my own set of bad habits. Especially when people are used to seeing Spooge's incrediblly helpful paintovers, mine would just hurt people more than help them.

Anyway, in this case, I thought some minor changes could demonstrate what I meant.

A lot of the details and diffused lighting you painted in there, while nice, but might actually hurt the piece. Sometimes less is more, especially in dramatic lighting situations where the range of value is very limited.

Or I could be talking out of my ass. Lord knows I've got much more to learn myself.

The guy who likes pink but isn't gay: Haa! The first one who noticed it! (Or just the first one who let me know) Thanks for comment!

Decker: Yes, I agree with you. There's too much happening. At the beginning there was just supposed to be that hag but the composition didn't work at all.

turnip: Yes, that was my point!

the_inseider: Just plan the picture first. And then block the large areas with big brush using the values you need. Then just go to smaller objects/things and then even smaller thing... and so on. And lots of glazing used also to fix value mistakes. Btw. It's a shame that I don't read books. I feel that I just don't have time! :/ I just have to paint. But I do know Stephen King's production.

chrono1: Thank you! I was aware that the second picture wasn't too good thinking about the mood. So I tried something hopeless and over glowed things for just hoping to get something nice going on.

nova: heh!

ruler: Thank you! I really liked what said about 1st pic! Yep, Skeleton stuff isn't too scary.... anymore!
hmm... I was thinking to stop drawing this kind of pics... but the family scene...

Fellipe: Thank you! Here's the closeup you requested.

Lunatique: Wow! I really like what you did to my second picture! I don't know why I have stuck to those midtones. I'm so afraid to use very dark values. :/ In my paintings (color) I have to force the darkest darks for creating contrast enough.
I think I don't agree with what you did to my 1st pic. It kinda lost the depth effect. Anyway, don't be afraid about doing paintovers; If you make a paintover and it isn't working other sijuners will certainly let you know! But thank you again for those overpaintings! I really appreciate them. =)
