Briareos: Would you really like to install a constant patrolling by some sort of mind-police that tediously has to watch all threads and censor unwanted comments? I prefer to have the possiblity to speak my mind, and I wish to be able to choose (adequately) harsh words if really really necessary. Your comment was completely useless, it's sole purpose (if it wouldn't have been intentional provocation) was to hurt the artist.
I'd prefer some self-control by the members of this still great community over censorship. I hope that's not just me...hmmm, just rambling..

Guarnere: I like the image, it is a cool concept. The light-source critique is valid, though. 50 hours? Man, I wouldn't have the patience!

<edit>
While we're at it...
This board has over 7000 members. AFAIK we have 2 moderators, both of which I believe have lives outside of the digital world going on. IMHO they are doing a great job here, moderating this board in a way that nobody must be afraid of what he's allowed to say, but still managing to remove excessive rudeness in a reasonable time.
This is a creative community. In my experience, creativity is more than hampered when there is too much protocol, too many rules, too much "mind-editing". I'm not trying to promote rudeness, but I am saying that a member who cares about his community should be able (or at least try to) measure his words. So I guess, excessive troll-posts have to be removed, but the casual f-word should not be taken so seriously. I remember e. g. some of the Faust-threads to be quite .. well, entertaining at least...
Don't know if I'm making sense here, or if it's time for my medication....

LOL

Good first try. Try to imagine the pieces of your pic in 3d...Paint in cast shadow and reflected light and so on...You will learn a lot from this place if you want to. Keep it up.

I saw this before somewhere else, and I commented.
Its pretty good, and since I'm no tablet wizard myself I'm not going to really say much other then that I kind of like the older version a bit better because it looked "more" 3d and less drawing ish. Like its still good, but I just like the older better.

if i was a mod i would ban you Briareos and Mangled Alecto, how dare you say that stuff. this guy has spent a lot of time on this. anyone who just gives subjective and or negative comments to somone like this shouldn't be posting. if it's obvious someone is still learning think b4 you talk shit. they may take what you say to heart.

with that said, guarnere if you don't want serious crits then say so to begin with. don't waste people's time by blowing them off after they spend time giving you advice. it is assumed on here that you want crits to get better. any exception needs to be stated up front.
I can't add anything to what people have said already in terms of crits.

<edit-now that I've calmed down I can see that alecto's post is not as low as Briareos'...but still a useless thing to say and coupled with the first post it's a horrible thing to say>

.... hm - it seems to me like you don't want comments on the pic but just people telling you how great it looks. So you probably don't want to hear about things you can improve, if this is so stop me now ...
well I don't hear anything...
anyways, the light source, that's great that you don't know where the light on the backgroud is going to be , but with a light that scatteres, it's hard to place it anywhere. There are some perspective issues ie. the gun seems warped. Ad just another obviious one is the shadows, try and go esy on the shadows. They're not supposed to be that smooth, try and do them sharper to define the shape better. And one more thing, don't say it's taken you 50hrs to do it if it didn't, and if it did - sorry man...

blah...

Shadows are NEVER black, there's no black in light.

And yes take a look at the Impressionists, and a bit of art history wouldn't hurt.

Your picture is not bad at all for a first try, but if it shows a lot of gaps in your actual knowledge of art; but well, I don't even know if you really wanna do art so I'll shut up now...

That's really all that needs to be said.

go to deviantart.com or dodmod/forums and look...i get hell of a lot better responses then you jackasses :|

I'd shut it on that topic, don't even dare to compare THIS forum to deviant art. The quality here has been dragged down a lot but people are still used to expect good stuff and react a bit bitchy often.
