I like abstract art, I guess I paint abstract art sometimes, but I don't really like to call it "abstract art", it's just me. I don't know why other people don't do it more often. For me, being completely unconvensional is a tremendous amount of freedom. It's not always nice to look at, but it's really therapeutic. I like the fact that it doesn't have to be anything, and it's always something different to everyone. Sometimes I do pictures of random lines and shapes, and I love showing them to people, because it's always something different to everyone. They're always like "what is it really?" and truth is, it's really whatever you want it to be, so it's very personal to everyone. It's an interesting change from clasicism, and I still like pictures that look real, but it does get boring just sticking to one specific thing and being unexploritive.
Here's a neat abstract piece by a guy I met on the net:

It's a beautiful piece, regardless if you can see well-defined characters in it or not.
Not all abstract artists can't draw, look at Picasso. He was an insanely good artist at a young age, he practically mastered figure drawing in an incredible short time when he was 13. I'm serious, you have to see his stuff from the ages of 13-17. He started drawing abstract art because he got tired of doing the same thing over and over again. A lot of abstract artists went through the same process, it's not good to generalize and say they have no skill.
A lot of people look at art, and immediately have to judge it based on skill and whatever. Abstract art isn't about technical skill, if it was then the artists would demonstrate technical skill, and if they had none, they wouldn't be artists. If you want to know what they're on about, you can't judge abstract pieces, you have to eccept them.
They're are a lot of modern art snobs, but they're also a lot of classicist snobs. Why bother . _________________ http://mauram.com |
