ok ive been looking for this thread.....i tried the way how that guys holds a pencil on the link that lionel provided and i found that its hard to control for me anyways *shrug* i pretty much hold the pencil the way that Socar does... |

It should be noted that there's no advantage to rotating a stylus, so the previous arguement is kind of moot.
I took a look at Lionel's link and found that I use several of those grips naturally. The guy that wrote that is an ass, though. Obviously, his methods work very well for him but that doesn't mean everyone who doesn't use it is a monkey, as he claims. If every artist just did what they were taught we'd still be doing cave drawings. It's quite arrogant of him to think his way is absolutely the best. |

I thought that this thread had died. try googling for "how to hold a pencil" first link I get is http://www.drawwrite.com/grip.html which seems to agree with Mr Howard. I would be interested if anyone can find a link to any other way.
If you are changing the way you are holding a pencil it is going to fell awkward at first and be hard to use but when you get used to it it is my own opinion that you will find it easier to draw.
Drew: It is arogant to think that you can invent a new way of doing art without learning what has come before. I can see no reason why you would want to hold a pencil and a stylus differently it just makes it harder to go between the two. |
