Hi all. This is something I did for the recent CGTalk Challenge. It was really fun to do and it made me get to work. I like how this is coming along but there are probably ways to make it a little more dramatic. I might think of more to do with it later. Anyway.. enough babble.. I am always open to any critiques if you think of something.

Here she is. Very Happy

Hello

I think this is when a second lightsource comes in handy, I made an over-paint to show you what I mean. I saw this thing with a second lighstource over at conceptart where they applied a second lightsource and it really helps to define the form on the character.
Otherwise, I like the character and the design of the picture.
Also, my over-paint is made very fast and sloppy so it is not this is how you do picture, it is more of just to give you the idea of the light.

I hope some of it helped. :)
see you
Matthew

That's really great. I love the magic effect... and the rest.
Maybe you could put some more detail/texture in her cape.

I think it's better with one lightsource, It's more mysterious that way. Or maybe the second one is just too strong.

EDIT: Oh, I'm not sure, but maybe the sky will look better with stars instead of clouds.

Matthew makes an interesting point. Though his overpaint is sketchy and his brushes aren't large enough (your trademark, Matthew Wink ), the secondary light source really really brings out the form of the character.

I suggest making a secondary light source, but a less intense light than in the overpaint. Also, use the opposite color of the other light source, a yellow-ish orange, to really make the, uh, magical glowing stuff stand out.

Drew - hehe, I wasnt aware that I had a trademark, cool. I guess I am stuck in the speedy maner but I am working on some longterm projects over the summer. :D

Wow Matthew what you did really brings it out. Thanks a lot. I'll go work on it again right now! Very Happy She is still really hard to see in my version. Your change looks good. And Frode, I think I may play with some textures in her cape. It does look a little plain. Drew, good point on making the secondary color the compliment of the blue-green.

Adamant, noxi, and scabuX, thank you all very much.

There's a lack of neck... body part from breasts to legs a tad too long... the shading on her mouth area suggests a different angle of perspective (at least at the first glance)... aside of that, a nicely rendered picture with a respectable amount of detail. WAY TA GO.

Great point Matthew! Shocked

Turokess: IMO because of the strong light there should be darker shadows
(especially the shadow area of the face)
A secondary lightsource would explain why there are no really dark shadows.

Matthew: about the brushes:

I always use the largest brushsize as possible (50-100% of the size of the shape I'm working on) as that allows me to work faster and it looks better because less stokes are used (simplification).
