Gidday guys long timer luker first time poster here, i'm about to purchase a wacom tablet in either 6x8 or 9x12 but i'd like to ask a few q of you great artists.
Say if i'm using it in photoshop does the active tablet area stay in proportion to screen size. i.e. i currently only have a 15inch monitor i say i had a 4x5 tablet and a 12x18 if i move the pen a measured 6cm across the tablet will it move 6cm on the monitor for both tablets? or will the entire tablet size be squished/scaled down or even scaled up? how does one go about getting a 1:1 reproduction of what i'm drawing in photoshop when the piece is probably being viewed @ 12.5%? Does the tablet make up the entire area on the screen, or only the area for the file your working on? with a PC (i have hardware to do so) can photoshop menus and maybe a reference picture be on my crapiest monitor then have a 2nd display with the file maximised? (may be getting a mac soon can this be done on a mac also?)
If someone has tried both sizes your opinions would be great, i't's just so hard to decide which one, any help is appreciated,
Alex
Ps. i've even cutout a template of their overall sizes in paper, and marked out the active area to see how big they are, the 9x12 is huge around 45.5cmX36cm! will be taking it to and from university too starting next year and that seems abit awkard,
thanks guys for the great forum,
yes i did use the search and learnt allot but still have the above questions,
Ta

well not off to a great start but anyway,
can someone at least tell me (in writting or with a link) how/if the tablet upsizes/downsizes itself to your current work? or does the active tablet area take up the entire screen?

You can set up the table to it works either way, but I think the default (and most common way) to set up the tablet is that, no matter how big your screen is, your tablet is the same ratio. So if you move your pen to the upper right corner of the tablet, it goes to the upper right corner of the screen.
So get a tablet size you feel comfortable working on, and don't worry about how big your monitor is in relation to it. |

I've had several small tablets now (graphire, intuos2), all A6 size. I think it suits well for me, because you don't have to make big arm movements in painting. It's not going to be like real painting on a large canvas anyway. Large intuos2 tablets were also too expensive for me. |
